1. Imaging the molecular pathways of neurodegeneration : New pathologies of SCA7
Sammanfattning : Spinocerebellar Ataxia type 7 (SCA7) is a genetic neurodegenerative disease with lethal outcome that affects the cerebellum and retina of patients. This thesis focuses on characterising molecular pathological pathways that cause toxicity and cell death in SCA7. LÄS MER
2. New Molecular Approaches to Glioblastoma Therapy
Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common high-grade brain tumor diagnosed in patients who are more than 50 years of age. The standard of care treatment is surgery, followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The median life expectancy of patients is only between 12 to 15 months after receiving current treatment regimes. 3. Exploring Molecular Interactions : Synthesis and Studies of Clip-Shaped Molecular Hosts
Sammanfattning : Molecular recognition via noncovalent interactions plays a key role in many biological processes such as antigen-antibody interactions, protein folding, the bonding and catalytic transformation of substrates by enzymes, etc. Amongst these noncovalent interactions, electrostatic interactions, hydrogen bonding, π-π interactions, and metal-to-ligand bonding are the most prominent. 4. A structural study of ribokinase from Escherichia coli
Sammanfattning : Ribokinase phosphorylates the abundant sugar ribose, using ATP in the presence of magnesium. The phosphorylation is the first reaction in ribose metabolism and the product, ribose-5-phosphate, can enter the pentose phosphate pathway and glycolysis. It can also be used in the synthesis of histidine and purines. LÄS MER
5. Morphological changes in mycobacteria
Sammanfattning : Morphological variations at different stages and conditions of growth has been observed frequently in various mycobacteria. Despite years of research, the molecular basis of such variations is still not clear and requires further elucidation. LÄS MER
