6. Chiral Liquid Crystalline Side-Chain Polymers. Design, Synthesis and Properties
Sammanfattning : The potential use of chiral liquid crystalline materials, low molar mass as well as polymers, in technical applications has been recognized for some decades now. A number of interesting phenomena based on the spontaneous ordering of the liquid crystal forming molecules are strong reasons for the research effort in this area. LÄS MER
7. Melt flow and surface stability effects on polymer flammability : A study on polystyrene, flexible polyurethane foam and polyolefin composites
Sammanfattning : Our ability to accurately determine the flammability properties of polymers is hampered bythe erratic effects of deformation and liquid flow that occur during polymer combustion. This study aims to improve the understanding of such effects at several levels: The often obvious impact of melt flow on standardized flammability test methods forelectrical appliances is described to identify the need and to motivate others to worktowards an improved material characterization. 8. Transport Coefficients during Drying of Solids containing Multicomponent Mixtures
Sammanfattning : This study investigated the transport coefficients involved in mass and heat transfer during the drying of a porous solid partially saturated with multicomponent mixtures. It included the coefficients governing liquid transport through the solid, the matrix of multicomponent diffusion coefficients in the liquid phase, and the effective thermal conductivity. LÄS MER
9. On the Solubility of Wood Hemicelluloses in Water and its Influence on the Adsorption at Cellulose/Water Interfaces
Sammanfattning : Hemicelluloses are a group of natural polysaccharides and one of the main components of wood. The availability and biodegradability of these polymers have created a great interest in developing new bio-based materials or composites from these materials for different end-use purposes. LÄS MER
10. On the investigation of chemical parameters reflecting microbial activity linked to nutrient availability in forest soil
Sammanfattning : As agrarian society developed, the most fertile soils able to sustain the nutritional requirements needed for high crop yield were assigned to farming, while the more penurious soils were left to uphold the forest ecosystems. Some temperate forests are developed on acidic soils considered to be nutrient poor, as much of the inorganic nutrients are entrapped in poorly weatherable soil minerals and not easily accessed by plant roots.
