  1. 1. Moisture Transport in Porous Media. Modelling Based on Kirchhoff Potentials

    Författare :Jesper Arfvidsson; Avdelningen för Byggnadsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; moisture distribtion; wood drying; wood; diffusion coefficient; numerical modelling; moisture flow; Moisture; transient measurements; periodic boundary condition; penetration depth; sorption coefficient; non-linear moisture flow; calculation model; anisitropy; Kirchhoff potentials; evaluation; moisture transport; Building construction; Byggnadsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis is focused on the development of the new concept to describe isothermal moisture transport using Kirchhoff potentials. The first four papers deal with moisture transport in porous media using Kirchhoff potentials. The last three papers deal with wood. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Moisture-induced stress and distortion of wood : A numerical and experimental study of wood's drying and long-term behaviour

    Författare :Sara Florisson; Sigurdur Ormarsson; Johan Vessby; Kent Persson; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; analytical method; calibration; controlled climate; creep; distortion; experimental methodology; FEM; fibre orientation; mechano-sorption; moisture transport; natural climate; Norway spruce; numerical model; three-dimensional; timber beam; validation; wood; Byggteknik; Civil engineering; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Sammanfattning : With the current advances made in three-dimensional modelling of wood, it is possible to provide an overall picture of moisture flow, and moisture-induced stress and deformations, whereas previously, experiments only provided local measurements. The main aim of the doctoral thesis is to investigate the possibilities of the developed three-dimensional numerical model to predict the behaviour of wood when simultaneously exposed to a mechanical load and a particular climate. 3. 3. Multiphase continuum modeling of wood : A hybrid mixture theory approach

    Författare :Winston Mmari; Björn Johannesson; Lynn Schreyer; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Moisture transport; Coupled heat and moisture; Over-hygroscopic; Hybrid mixture theory; Mixture theory; Swelling; Hygro-mechanical; Non-linear elasticity; Large deformation; Phase field crack model; Anisotropic cracking; FEM; Numerical model; Norway spruce; Wood; Porous media; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Wood has been used as a construction material for a very long time. The development of efficient industrial production processes of wood has expanded the use of the material with the introduction of new products, such as engineered wood products. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Numerical Analysis of Moisture-Related Distortion in Sawn Timber

    Författare :Sigurdur Ormarsson; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Computer simulations; Deformation; Wood; Moisture; Drying; Finite element method; Byggteknik; Civil engineering;

    Sammanfattning : A 3D theory for the numerical simulation of deformations and stresses in wood during moisture variation is described. The constitutive model employed assumes the total strain rate to be the sum of the elastic strain rate, the moisture-induced strain rate, the mechano-sorption strain rate and the creep strain rate. 5. 5. Moisture Balance in Painted Wood Panelling

    Författare :Stefan Hjort; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; moisture transport; numerical simulation; rot; wood; moisture conditions; paint;

    Sammanfattning : Over the last years thousands of houses have been damaged by wood rot in the exterior wood panelling due to excessive moisture conditions. This thesis is about moisture conditions and the way moisture enters and exits painted wood panelling structures. LÄS MER
