1. Moisture Transport in Porous Media. Modelling Based on Kirchhoff Potentials
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis is focused on the development of the new concept to describe isothermal moisture transport using Kirchhoff potentials. The first four papers deal with moisture transport in porous media using Kirchhoff potentials. The last three papers deal with wood. LÄS MER
2. Moisture-induced stress and distortion of wood : A numerical and experimental study of wood's drying and long-term behaviour
Sammanfattning : With the current advances made in three-dimensional modelling of wood, it is possible to provide an overall picture of moisture flow, and moisture-induced stress and deformations, whereas previously, experiments only provided local measurements. The main aim of the doctoral thesis is to investigate the possibilities of the developed three-dimensional numerical model to predict the behaviour of wood when simultaneously exposed to a mechanical load and a particular climate. 3. Multiphase continuum modeling of wood : A hybrid mixture theory approach
Sammanfattning : Wood has been used as a construction material for a very long time. The development of efficient industrial production processes of wood has expanded the use of the material with the introduction of new products, such as engineered wood products. LÄS MER
4. Numerical Analysis of Moisture-Related Distortion in Sawn Timber
Sammanfattning : A 3D theory for the numerical simulation of deformations and stresses in wood during moisture variation is described. The constitutive model employed assumes the total strain rate to be the sum of the elastic strain rate, the moisture-induced strain rate, the mechano-sorption strain rate and the creep strain rate. 5. Moisture Balance in Painted Wood Panelling
Sammanfattning : Over the last years thousands of houses have been damaged by wood rot in the exterior wood panelling due to excessive moisture conditions. This thesis is about moisture conditions and the way moisture enters and exits painted wood panelling structures. LÄS MER
