This dissertation reframes Latin American literary regionalism as the configuration of an alternative political-cultural reaction in the 1930s-1940s. It argues that such an approach questions the precepts of Eurocentric modernity, going beyond the nuanced conceptualization of the environment as a nature-culture dichotomy. LÄS MER

This dissertation examines the modernity of the Swedish proletarian author Ivar Lo-Johansson (1901-1990), as manifested in the so-called 'statare' novels: Godnatt, jord (Breaking Free, 1933), Bara en mor (Only a Mother, 1939), and Traktorn (1943). The dissertation examines, on the one hand, modernisation and modernity as the topoi of these novels, and on the other, how the author relates to the literary tendency that has come to signify the aesthetic modernisation of the 20th century, i. This thesis takes the conservator as a starting point to explore more-than-human aspects of the museum of modernity. Assuming that built-in obstacles impinge when museums today deal with environmental issues‚ it investigates new and alternative perspectives on the engagement with our immediate surroundings, in this case the museum objects. There has been a lack of more profound studies and information on the growth of modern youth culture in Sweden. It has often been alleged that this culture was developed in the 1950s by the more conspicuos youth groupings. I question this statement, and so I have chosen to investigate the 1940s, a much too neglected period. LÄS MER
