Sammanfattning : What did people think about the relationship between a man and a woman in Early Modern Sweden? Did they consider love and the parties' free choice to be of any importantance in the making of a marriage? What happened when marriages were falling apart, how common were divorces? I also discuss why sexuality was restricted, and how it affected women and men. What effects did changes in the legislation have? 3. Synd och skam : ogifta mödrar på svensk landsbygd 1680-1880
Sammanfattning : The situation of unmarried mothers in Swedish rural society during 1680–1880 is the subject of this thesis. It focuses on the judicial and religious discourse concerning extra-marital sexuality. The state felt duty-bound to control extra-marital sexuality, and this resulted in a dynamic legislative arena. 4. Den rotfaste bonden - myt eller verklighet? Brukaransvar i Ramkvilla socken 1620-1820
Sammanfattning : For how many years was a farmer responsible for running a farm in Sweden’s old peasant society’? This is the question that underpins my research into life in Ramkvilla parish in the province of Småland for two hundred years (1623–1819). By conducting a detailed study of farm practice at the individual level, I have been able to analyse a complex theme that touches upon the issues of responsibility for work and taxes, relationships between the generations and sexes, and the crises of agrarian society. 5. Mellan två riken : Integration, politisk kultur och förnationella identiteter på Gotland 1500–1700
Sammanfattning : Under the peace treaty of Brömsebro in 1645 the largest island of the Baltic Sea, Gotland, became a part of the Swedish Kingdom. Until then it had been under Danish control, and since the late fifteenth century the Danish authorities had pursued the economic, judicial, administra-tive and ecclesiastical incorporation of the island.
