1. Advanced Analog MMICs for mm-wave Communication and Remote Sensing in 0.15µm mHEMT Technology
Sammanfattning : Multi-Gigabit per second wireless communication and atmospheric remote sensing for weather forecasts are new applications in the mm-wave frequency spectra. The High Electron Mobility Transistor is an excellent technology for high frequency mm-wave applications. Its low noise and linear performance makes a 0. LÄS MER
2. Mm-wave Radio Astronomy Instrumentation for the Onsala Space Observatory and SEST
Sammanfattning : The thesis presents work done in developing instrumentation for mm- and submm-wave radio astronomy. The work described is in several fields. The greater part of the thesis is concerned with sensitive heterodyne receivers and in particular the cryogenically cooled mixers. In paper A the SEST telescope and its observing system are described. LÄS MER
3. Development of a Sideband Separating SIS Mixer Technology for MM-Wavelengths
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents work done in developing instrumentation for mm-wave radio astronomy. The main subject of the thesis is a sideband separating (2SB) receiver for 85-115 GHz based on a quadrature scheme with two identical SIS mixer junctions pumped by a LO applied with 90° phase difference. 4. MgB2 hot-electron bolometer mixers for sub-mm wave astronomy
Sammanfattning : Spectroscopy and photometry in the terahertz (THz) range of remote space objects allows for a study of their chemical composition, because this range covers rotational lines from simple molecules and electron transition lines from atoms and ions. Due to high spectral resolution, THz heterodyne receivers al- low for studying dynamical properties of space objects manifested in doppler-shifted emission lines. LÄS MER
5. Reconfigurable and Wideband Receiver Components for System-on-Chip Millimetre-Wave Radiometer Front-Ends
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents solutions and studies related to the design of reconfigurable and wideband receiver circuits for system-on-chip (SoC) radiometer front-ends within the millimetre-wave (mm-wave) range. Whereas many of today’s mm-wave front-ends are bulky and costly due to having discrete RF components, single-chip receiver modules could potentially result in a wider use for emerging applications such as wireless communication, short range radar and passive imaging security sensors if realised with adequate performances and at a lower cost.
