  1. 11. DNA Binding of Metal Complexes. A Spectroscopic Study of Trigonal Ru(II)phenanthroline Complexes and Uranyl(VI) Ion with Respect to Specific Interactions with DNA

    Författare :Catharina Hiort; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; uranyl; nucleic acids; optical probes;

    Sammanfattning : The interaction of metal complexes with nucleic acids has attracted attention owing to their potentials as optical probes, probes of chirality, and for use as artificial restriction enzymes. To understand the underlying mechanisms in these contexts we studied the binding to DNA of the enantiomers of two chiral ruthenium(II) metal complexes ([Ru(phen)3]2+ and [Ru(phen)2]2+DPPZ) phen=1,10-phenanthroline, DPPZ=dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine, and of the linear uranium(VI) complex, uranyl ([UO2]2+), using linear dichroism, circular dichroism and luminescence, as well as nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. 2. 12. Biological and Biophysical Studies on Ruthenium Complexes

    Författare :Anna Mårtensson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; metal susceptibility; DNA; antimicrobial; circular dichroism; ruthenium complex; linear dichroism; isothermal titration calorimetry; intercalation;

    Sammanfattning : Small molecules that interact with DNA through intercalation are attractive candidates for treatments against cancer and microbial infections. Octahedral ruthenium(II) polypyridyl complexes, being substitution-inert, readily synthesized and coordinately saturated, has the potential of being developed in to a new family of drugs. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Structural studies of FocB and Transthyretin

    Författare :Ulrika Wikström Hultdin; Elisabeth Sauer-Eriksson; Inger Andersson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The molecular structure of a protein decides its function, its way to interact with other molecules. Using X-ray crystallography methods, a 3-dimensional, atomic model of a macromolecule can be determined. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Nuclear Magnetic Relaxation Dispersion and Pulsed-Gradient Spin Echo Studies of Biomolecular Solutions and Amphiphilic Liquid Crystals

    Författare :Haukur Jóhannesson; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stretched dispersion; DNA hydration; solvent dynamics; NMRD; Random flight simulation; PGSE; Diffusion; Nematic phase; NMR; Amphiphilic liquid crystals; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Biomolecular solutions and amphiphilic liquid crystals are studied by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Dispersion (NMRD) and Pulsed-Gradient Spin Echo (PGSE) respectively. A random-flight simulation is performed to obtain the obstructing factors for self-diffusion of small molecules in macrofluids. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Molecular dynamics of protein-nucleic acid complexes

    Författare :Katarina Hart; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Nucleic acids are essential molecules when it comes to replication, transcription and translation of the genetic information and nearly all functions of nucleic acids are carried out in complex with proteins. The proteins need to be able to discriminate between different sites on the nucleic acids for correct binding. LÄS MER
