  1. 16. Environmental history in southern Mozambique : Reconstruction of flooding events, hydroclimate and sea-level dynamics since mid-Holocene

    Författare :Sandra Raúl Sitoe; Jan Risberg; Elin Norström; Lars-Ove Westerberg; John Compton; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Southern Africa; Limpopo River floodplain; flooding event; sea-level change; climate change; diatoms; phytoliths; mineral magnetics; grain-size; radiocarbon dating; kvartärgeologi; Quaternary Geology;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis has been to reconstruct paleoenvironment, paleohydrology and paleoclimate in coastal southern Mozambique, with emphasis on tracing past flooding events on the lower Limpopo River floodplain. In order to extend flood chronologies beyond periods covered by instrumental data, sediments from lakes on the floodplain were studied (Lake Lungué, Coassane Oxbow, Lake Magandane and Lake Soane). 2. 17. Holocene climate and environmental dynamics on the Tristan da Cunha island group, South Atlantic

    Författare :Karl Ljung; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; palynologi; Geology; climate change; pollen analysis; Palaeobotany; phylogeny; palynology; Paleobotanik; fylogeni; vegetation change; gyttja; peat; Holocene; Quaternary; South Atlantic; Tristan da Cunha; physical geography; Geologi; fysisk geografi;

    Sammanfattning : It has been shown that the present interglacial has been climatically dynamic with both rapid and severe climatic fluctuations. The spatial and temporal differences of these changes are however not fully resolved. The aim of this thesis is to present a detail high resolution record of past climate changes from the central South Atlantic. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Geometallurgical programs – critical evaluation of applied methods and techniques

    Författare :Viktor Lishchuk; Simon Michaux; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mineralteknik; Mineral Processing;

    Sammanfattning : Geometallurgy is a team-based multidisciplinary approach aimed at integrating geological, mineralogical and metallurgical information and yielding a spatial quantitative predictive model for production management. Production management includes forecast, control and optimization of the product quality (concentrates and tailings) and metallurgical performance (e. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Assembly of the Caledonian Orogenic Wedge, Jämtland, Sweden

    Författare :Hagen Bender; Uwe Ring; Bjarne SG Almqvist; Rob Strachan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; collisional orogeny; Scandinavian Caledonides; Seve Nappe Complex; Köli Nappe Complex; in-sequence thrusting; out-of-sequence thrusting; imbrication; nappe stacking; orogenic wedge assembly; Rb–Sr geochronology; rock magnetism; anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility; Geology; geologi;

    Sammanfattning : Collisional orogeny creates the largest mountain belts on Earth. The Caledonides of Scandinavia are a deeply eroded, ancient mountain belt, which today exposes a deep section through the former orogenic interior. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Multidisciplinary Near-Surface Investigation of a Quick-Clay Landslide Prone Area in Southwest Sweden

    Författare :Silvia Salas Romero; Alireza Malehmir; Ian Snowball; Christopher Juhlin; Laura Valentina Socco; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quick-clay; reflection seismic; landslide; southwest Sweden; borehole logging; physico-chemical properties; hydrogeological modelling; multichannel analysis of surface waves; magnetics; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Quick-clay landslides are considered one of the most important geohazards in Sweden, Norway, and Canada. The deposits involved are glacial and postglacial clays and silty clays, which are very sensitive to increased stress that may collapse their structure and cause liquefaction. LÄS MER
