1. Mass balance of perfluoroalkyl acids in the Baltic Sea
Sammanfattning : Perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) are man-made chemicals. Their unique properties make them beneficial for a wide range of industrial and consumer applications, such as constituents in fire fighting foams, hydraulic oils and food packaging materials. LÄS MER
2. Modeling Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and brown trout (Salmo trutta) responses to river habitat alteration
Sammanfattning : Half the world’s river volume is affected by flow alterations and/or fragmentation, a figure that is likely to increase with the current global surge in hydropower development. At the same time, freshwater biodiversity is in rapid decline. LÄS MER
3. Metabolism of some polychlorinated biphenyl and polybrominated diphenyl ether congeners in the rat
Sammanfattning : For the understanding of the metabolic fate of xenobiotics, in vivo studies are needed. In this thesis the metabolism of CB-28 and CB-77 and BDE-209 in the rat are determined. In addition, pharmacokinetic studies of CB-28 and BDE- 209 are included. The compounds were radiolabelled and their excretion and tissue distribution determined. LÄS MER
4. Crustal stress studies using microearthquakes and boreholes
Sammanfattning : The state of stress in the crust is essential for the understanding of geodynamic processes such as the transmission of plate driving forces through the lithosphere and the triggering of earthquakes. This thesis describes the development and application of new methods for the estimation of crustal stresses. LÄS MER
5. Effects of solar radiation on the abiotic and bacterially mediated carbon flux in aquatic ecosystems
Sammanfattning : In this Thesis, I studied some of the current aspects of organic matter photochemistry. I analyzed abiotic phototransformations of several types of dissolved (DOM) and particulate organic matter (POM). I also evaluated the effects of phototransformation of several types of DOM on bacteria. LÄS MER
