16. Significance of molecular genetic alterations and apoptosis in colorectal cancer
Sammanfattning : Colorectal cancer is a serious health problem in Western societies. In Sweden it is the second most common malignancy among females, and the third in males, and the third leading cause of cancer related death in both sexes. To date it is known that several biological pathways can lead to colorectal cancer. LÄS MER
17. Molecular and Biological Characteristics of Stroma and Tumor Cells in Colorectal Cancer
Sammanfattning : Carcinogenesis is a progressive process involving multiple genetic alterations in tumor cells and complex interactions in the tumor-host microenvironment. To better understand the contribution of molecular alterations in tumor cells and stromal variables to the development of colorectal cancer (CRC) and identify prognostic factors, in this study we examined the clinicopathological and biological significance of stromal variables, including particularly interesting new cysteine-histidine rich protein (PINCH), inflammatory infiltration, angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis, as well as hRAD50/hMRE11/hNBS1 proteins and hRAD50 mutation in tumor cell in CRC. 18. Mismatch repair deficiency in colorectal cancer : prognosis and prediction for basic treatment strategies
Sammanfattning : Colorectal cancer (CRC) remains a significant healthcare problem worldwide, being the third most common cancer and the fourth most frequent cause of cancer death. Environmental and dietary factors such as alcohol abuse, cigarette smoking, and genetic predisposition seem to constitute the main aetiologies. LÄS MER
19. Prognostic and Predictive Somatic Mutations in Colorectal Cancer
Sammanfattning : Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most incident and the second deadliest cancer worldwide. Even though CRC incidence is strongly correlated with age, it has been increasing in developing countries and younger individuals. LÄS MER
20. Gastroesophageal reflux disease - complications and prognostic aspects
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates several aspects on gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and associated complications as Barrett’s esophagus and esophageal adenocarcinoma. I. To clarify the natural course of GERD, a pH-metry verified cohort was re-evaluated after 20 years. The course of GERD may well be progressive. LÄS MER
