  1. 1. Volatile organic compounds from microorganisms identification and health effects

    Detta är en avhandling från Umeå : Folkhälsa och klinisk medicin

    Författare :Anna-Sara Claeson; Umeå universitet.; [2006]
    Nyckelord :microorganisms; building materials; VOCs; MVOCs; amines; LC-MS MS; exposure; perceived air quality; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; arbets- och miljömedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Damp building materials are subjected to degradation processes due tomoisture and also microbial growth, with both of these giving rise to emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that may contribute to indoor air health problems. The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate emissions of reactive and non-reactive VOCs from damp building materials and from the microorganisms growing on them, and also to investigate the possible health impact of these compounds. 2. 2. Metal accumulation by microorganisms : Characteristics and implications for soil systems

    Detta är en avhandling från Linköping : Linköpings universitet

    Författare :Maria Ledin; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [1994]
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the present study was to investigate the potential role of microbial accumulation in the mobility of metals in soil systems. As a first approach, the metal-accumulating properties of three bacterial species were studied to determine to what extent and under what conditions the accumulation occurred. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Biotic and abiotic stress in microorganisms and plants: Some Mechanisms of Stress and Programmed Cell Death. Genetic Engineering Approaches Towards Improved Stress Tolerance

    Detta är en avhandling från Pure and Applied Biochemistry, Lund University

    Författare :Per-Johan Meijer; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [1998]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biotic stress; plants; microorganisms; stress tolerance; antifreeze protein; proline; programmed cell death; systemic aquired resistance; Biochemistry; metabolism; Biokemi; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; abiotic stress;

    Sammanfattning : Various forms of stress, such as biotic and abiotic stress, were studied in microorganisms and plants to learn more about the underlying mechanisms of such stress and potential genetic engineering strategies towards stress tolerance. An antifreeze protein from winter flounder, expressed in E. LÄS MER

    Detta är en avhandling från Umeå : Ekologi, miljö och geovetenskap

    Författare :Johnny Berglund; Umeå universitet.; [2005]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; resource limitation; predation limitation; microbial food web; heterotrophic microorganisms; nanoflagellates; ciliates; protists; resource heterogeneity; chrysomonads; chrysophytes; group-specific PCR-DGGE primers; Baltic Sea; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology Marine ecology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi Marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Heterotrophic microorganisms are important for the flow of carbon and nutrients in the sea. Bacteria, nanoflagellates and ciliates are relevant components of the pelagic food web. In order to be able to predict the outcome of e.g. LÄS MER

  5. 5. In vivo evaluations of the neutralizing effect of a hydroxyl ion-releasing resin composite and a prophylactic gel on plaque acidogenicity measured by the microtouch method

    Detta är en avhandling från Umeå : Odontologi

    Författare :Anitha Persson; Umeå universitet.; [2006]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; caries; clinical; buffering; elderly; plaque pH; resin composite; restorations; microorganisms; ODONTOLOGY; ODONTOLOGI;

    Sammanfattning : The prevalence of dental caries has decreased dramatically in most developed countries since the sixties and the number of remaining teeth in adults has increased during the last decades. Elderly as a group will during aging become an increasing risk group for caries. LÄS MER
