16. PROBING SECRETORY VESICLES AND LIPOSOME MODEL SYSTEMS USING NANOSCALE ELECTROCHEMISTRY AND MASS SPECTROMETRY
Sammanfattning : Cellular communication is based on the process of exocytosis, regulated release of chemical messengers into the extracellular space. These messengers, neurotransmitters, are packed into vesicles that during exocytosis fuse with the plasma membrane and release their content. LÄS MER
17. Organic electronics for precise delivery of neurotransmitters
Sammanfattning : Organic electronic materials, that is, carbon-based compounds that conduct electricity, have emerged as candidates for improving the interface between conventional electronics and biological systems. The softness of these materials matches the elasticity of biological tissue better than conventional electronic conductors, allowing better contact to tissue, and the mixed ionic-electronic conductivity can improve the signal transduction between electronic devices and electrically excitable cells. 18. On the importance of nanometer structures for implant incorporation in bone tissue
Sammanfattning : Introduction Replacing lost teeth with dental implants is today a reliable treatment method associated with good long-term clinical results. Different surface modifications alter the surface topography at micro- and nanometer level of resolution as well as chemical properties, which have shown to be of importance for osseointegration. 19. Towards ultrafast imaging with extreme ultraviolet light sources
Sammanfattning : This thesis reports experimental studies performed with two advanced coherent XUV sources with ultrashort pulse duration, high-order harmonic generation and seeded-free electron laser. High-order harmonic generation (HHG) is the generation of overtones of a fundamental laser pulse in a medium, e.g. noble gases. LÄS MER
20. Combining mass spectrometric tissue imaging with conventional histology : focus on Alzheimer’s disease
Sammanfattning : Historically, most scientific discoveries have been accompanied by previous technological innovation. Representative examples are the introduction of gene sequencing technologies, which allowed for the mapping of the human genome, or the constant improvement in the microscopy field that lead to the introduction of modern multiphoton imaging techniques, allowing for live imaging of body organs in animal specimens.
