  1. 6. Grain Size and Solid Solution Strengthening in Metals

    Författare :Dilip Chandrasekaran; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :strengthening mechanisms; flow stress; solid solution strengthening; grain size strengthening; micromechanical modelling; AFM; EBSD;

    Sammanfattning : The understanding of the strengthening mechanisms is crucialboth in the development of new materials with improvedmechanical properties and in the development of better materialmodels in the simulation of industrial processes. The aim ofthis work has been to study different strengthening mechanismsfrom a fundamental point of view that enables the developmentof a general model for the flow stress. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Cold compaction of composite powders

    Författare :Olle Skrinjar; Per-Lennart Larsson; Alan Cocks; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; micromechanical modelling; composite powders; descrete element method; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Sammanfattning : Powder compaction is a production method commonly used in the manufacturing industry today. In order to minimize costly experiments and to optimize serial production of details several methods to analyze the powder compaction process are developed and used. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Finite element modelling of the mechanics of solid foam materials

    Författare :Steven Ribeiro-Ayeh; Dan Zenkert; Andrew M. Kraynic; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Engineering design; point-stress criterion; bi-material interface; foam; cellular sollid; micro-mechanical modelling; Konstruktionsteknik; Construction engineering; Konstruktionsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Failure of bi-material interfaces is studied with the aim to quantify the influence of the induced stress concentrations on the strength of the interfaces. A simple point-stress criterion, used in conjunction with finite element calculations, is evaluated to provide strength predictions for bi-material bonded joints and inserts in polymer foam. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Modelling of cyclic and viscous behaviour of materials for gas turbine applications - with a view towards fatigue life predictions

    Författare :Rebecka Brommesson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; mean stress relaxation; parameter identification; Haynes 282; viscoplasticity; Ti-6242; fatigue life prediction; intergranular fracture; micromechanical model; sensitivity analysis; finite element method; Plasticity; crystal plasticity; cyclic hardening softening;

    Sammanfattning : Critical jet engine components are exposed to high temperatures. These components are also required to have low weight in order to reduce fuel consumption and allow for heavier payload, higher speed, and longer flight distance of the aircraft. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Strain Gradient Plasticity Modelling of Precipitation Strengthening

    Författare :Mohammadali Asgharzadeh; Jonas Faleskog; Samuel Forest; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : The introduction of particles and precipitates into a matrix material results in strengthening effects. The two main mechanisms involved in this matter are referred to as Orowan and shearing. To numerically study this phenomenon is the motivation to the research done, which is presented here in this thesis. LÄS MER
