6. From environmental cue to phenotypic variation – a functional investigation of wing polyphenism in an emerging model species
Sammanfattning : Phenotypic plasticity is a ubiquitous feature of living organisms and enable individuals to adapt to changing environments. A particularly prominent example of plasticity is found in polyphenisms, where environmental cues received during development leads to the generation of discrete variation in populations. LÄS MER
7. Molecular mechanisms in synaptic vesicle recycling
Sammanfattning : Neurons communicate through specialized contacts called synapses, which consist of pre- and postsynaptic compartments separated by a narrow synaptic cleft. The stimulus- dependent rapid influx of calcium ions into the presynaptic compartment induces fusion of neurotransmitter-filled vesicles with the plasma membrane and release of their content into the synaptic cleft. 8. Transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells and injections of microRNA as therapeutics for nervous system repair
Sammanfattning : Traumatic injuries to the spinal cord (SCI) and peripheral nerve (PNI) affect several thousand people worldwide every year. At present, there is no effective treatment for SCI and despite continuous improvements in microsurgical reconstructive techniques for PNI, many patients are still left with permanent, devastating neurological dysfunction. 9. On VEGF and related factors in neurotrauma
Sammanfattning : At present, there is no cure for traumatic spinal cord and brain injuries. Therapies in use have only modest effect on outcome. Therefore, the need to better understand the biology of traumatic CNS injuries, making development of new therapies possible, is huge. LÄS MER
10. Migration of molecules in the brain : focus on the extracellular space and the cerebrospinal fluid
Sammanfattning : Three different molecules and three different experimental models were used to study the migration of molecules in the rat brain: a neurotransmitter- dopamine, an extracellular market- mannitol, and a neuropeptide beta-endorphin. Two models in vivo were used to study the diffusion and migration of molecules: dual-probe rnicrodialysis in the striatum, and direct intrastriatal microinjections followed by cerebrospinal fluid sampling from the cisterna magna.
