  1. 1. Cryptic coloration, microhabitat choice and polymorphism in Idotea baltica (Isopoda)

    Författare :Sami Merilaita; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; Animal Ecology; zooekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I have studied cryptic coloration, microhabitat use and colour polymorphism in the marine isopod Idotea baltica. In the Baltic Sea it lives and feeds mainly on the seaweed Fucus vesiculosus, which in sheltered sites usually is whitespotted on its lower parts due to epizoites. The white-spotted morph of I. 3. 3. Causes and consequences of niche differentiation between color morphs of pygmy grasshoppers

    Författare :Einat Karpestam; Anders Forsman; Birgitta Tullberg; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; color polymorphism; visual predators; Tetrix subulata; differential habitat use; niche; thermoregulation; feeding preferences; stable isotopes; Evolutionary Biology; Evolutionsbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I used the color polymorphic pygmy grasshopper, Tetrix subulata, as a model system in order to investigate the degree of niche differentiation between alternative color morphs that are present within a single population. First, I hypothesized that individuals belonging to different color morphs differ in their innate food preference due to somewhat dissimilar physiology, and in their actual food consumption due in part to differential habitat use. 4. 4. Puumala virus dynamics in bank voles along habitat and community gradients : the ecology and risk of an emerging infectious disease

    Författare :Hussein Khalil; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The majority of recent infectious disease outbreaks are zoonotic, i.e. caused by pathogens shared between humans and other vertebrates, and many of those originate in wildlife. The life cycle of zoonotic diseases is complex, and involves at least one non-human host. LÄS MER
