1. Microdialysis Sampling of Macro Molecules : Fluid Characteristics, Extraction Efficiency and Enhanced Performance
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, fluid characteristics and sampling efficiency of high molecular weight cut-off microdialysis are presented, with the aim of improving the understanding of microdialysis sampling mechanisms and its performance regarding extraction efficiency of biological fluid and biomarkers.Microdialysis is a well-established clinical sampling tool for monitoring small biomarkers such as lactate and glucose. 2. On microvascular blood flow assessment with the new microdialysis urea clearance technique
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to develop and evaluate a new way of monitoring blood flow with microdialysis. A thin catheter consisting of a semipermeable membrane is implanted in the tissue being studied. LÄS MER
3. Microdialysis : potentials and limitations
Sammanfattning : Despite improvements in operating technique and post-operative management, many patients undergoing liver transplantation still suffer post-operative complications, which may lead to graft loss or patient death. Patients are monitored closely post-operatively using blood chemistry, diagnostic imaging and liver biopsies to detect these complications including rejection and arterial- and portal vein thrombosis. 4. Studies of the Biology of Intrathecal Treatment in Progressive MS
Sammanfattning : Background: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, inflammatory, autoimmune disease, affecting the central nervous system (CNS). About 85% of afflicted present with a relapsing-remitting form of the disease (RRMS), for which a breakthrough in treatment was made in 2008 with rituximab, an antibody directed towards CD20, a surface antigen on B-cells. 5. Exploring Intestinal Ischemia : An experimental study
Sammanfattning : Background and aims: Unrecognized intestinal mucosal ischemia in severely ill patients may trigger development of multiple organ failure. Such ischemia can be evaluated by intraluminal tonometry reflecting mucosal PCO2 and intramucosal pH (pHi). LÄS MER
