16. Micro-by-micro interactions : Aggregation dynamics, biofilms, and ecotoxicological impacts of suspended solids
Sammanfattning : Increasing concerns arise regarding the environmental risk of microplastics (MP) and their interactions with biota, prompting numerous effect studies. However, current ecotoxicology methods fall short when it comes to assessing MP impacts. LÄS MER
17. Experimental Studies on the Regulation of Pigment Dynamics in Phytoplankton and Copepods by Dissolved Inorganic Nutrients
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the role of dissolved inorganic nutrients in generating changes in phytoplankton community and pigment composition and if such changes can affect the production of the antioxidant astaxanthin in the ecosystem via pelagic copepods. The background of my studies is the possible relationship between eutrophication and a reproductive disturbance in Baltic populations of Atlantic salmon (M74), which is associated with astaxanthin and thiamine deficiencies and oxidative stress. 19. Photosynthetic nitrogen assimilation in green microalgae
Sammanfattning : Reduction of inorganic nitrogen (N0j, N0~) in illuminated Scamdumus obtuu-iuAculuA Chod. is coupled to photosynthetic electron transport. Uptake and reduction of NO^ are in balance with incorporation of reduced N during CO2 fixation; whereas in the absence of CO2, the cells liberate NH^ derived from NOj reduction. LÄS MER
20. Microalgae at wastewater treatment in cold climate
Sammanfattning : The thesis concludes that microalgae may improve wastewater treatment in ponds in cold climate, from a treatment perspective as well as a sustainability perspective. A literature review revealed that the microalgae biomass produced may find economic use, depending on what species will come to dominate, since there are many possible products from microalgae biomass.
