  1. 1. THE VASOPRESSIN SYSTEM IN DIABETES MELLITUS, OBESITY AND THE METABOLIC SYNDROME

    Författare :Sofia Enhörning; Kardiovaskulär forskning - hypertoni; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; arginine vasopressin; copeptin; prediction; epidemiology; diabetes mellitus; risk factors; abdominal obesity; obesity; metabolic syndrome; microalbuminuria; AVPR1A; AVPR1B;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Animal studies suggest that the arginine vasopressin (AVP) system plays a role in glucose and fat metabolism, but data from humans are limited. Method and results: We analysed plasma copeptin (copeptin), a stable C-terminal fragment of the AVP pro-hormone in the large, Swedish, population-based cohort Malmö Diet and Cancer Study Cardiovascular Cohort (MDC-CC, n=6103). 2. 2. Permeability of the glomerular filtration barrier in relation to the size, shape, charge and deformability of the permeating molecules

    Författare :Daniel Asgeirsson; Njurmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; proteinuria; capillary physiology; peritoneal membrane; dialysis; microalbuminuria; cardiovascular; endothelial dysfunction; diagnosis;

    Sammanfattning : Characterization of the glomerular filtration barrier is of fundamental importance for understanding the pathophysiology of proteinuric kidney diseases. Furthermore, it can be of key value in the understanding of microalbuminuria, which is often associated with endothelial dysfunction in conjunction with cardiovascular disease. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Dynamics of the glomerular filtration barrier - Physiological and pathophysiological aspects

    Författare :Josefin Axelsson; Njurmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glomerular filtration barrier; Glomerular permeability; Microalbuminuria; Albumin; Ficoll; Sieving Coefficient; Rats;

    Sammanfattning : The dynamic properties of the glomerular filtration barrier (GFB) are of fundamental importance for the understanding of the physiology and pathophysiology of microalbuminuria and proteinuric diseases. In the studies of this doctoral thesis the properties of the rat glomerular filtration barrier were investigated under resting conditions and following a number of challenges using highly sensitive gel filtration chromatography (HPSEC) detection of FITC-Ficoll in serum and urine. 4. 4. Diabetic glomerulopathy-natural history, intervention and prediction of complications

    Författare :Nina Perrin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Type 1 diabetes; adolescents; normoalbuminuria; normotension; glomerulopathy; kidney biopsy; ambulatory blood pressure measurement; kidney function tests; risk factors; microalbuminuria; hypertension;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common chronic diseases in childhood. Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is one of the threatening complications of diabetes that occurs in 30-40% of patients after 20 years duration of disease. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Impaired glucose tolerance in ischemic heart disease

    Författare :Loghman Henareh; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Diabetes mellitus; myocardial infarction; atherosclerosis; endothelial dysfunction; inflammation; microalbumiuria; left ventricular hypertrophy; tissue Doppler.;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) and impaired glucose tolerance test (IGT) are well known risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Individuals with IGT, a prediabetic state, are asymptomatic during many years and they often remain undiagnosed until they have developed overt diabetes or cardiovascular complications. LÄS MER
