  2. 7. Micro-mechanical mechanisms for deformation in polymer-material structures

    Författare :Jessica Strömbro; Peter Gudmundson; Per Gradin; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Length-scale effects; Strain gradient; Moisture change; Humidity change; Network model; Fibre model; Mathematical model; Polymer; Micro-indentation; Particle composite; Interfacial debonding; Matrix cracking; Paper; Mechano-sorptive creep; Accelerated creep; Other materials science; Övrig teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the focus has been on micro-mechanical mechanisms in polymer-based materials and structures. The first part of the thesis treats length-scale effects on polymer materials. Experiments have showed that the smaller the specimen, the stronger is the material. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Micro-scale Platforms for Investigations of Biological Structures

    Författare :Anna Kim; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microfabrication; non-ionic surfactants; single-cell viability; hydrodynamic flow confinement; cell-to-cell connections; SU-8; Teflon AF; cell protrusions; free-standing probes; millimeter-waves;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development of innovative micro-scale platforms as a means to address the current challenges within the field of cell biology, and to provide an interface between miniaturized analytical technology and experimental systems for the life sciences. The work includes an analytical platform for rapid assessment of the viability of adherent single cells; a surface patterning strategy for investigations of cell-to-cell communication via protrusions; a versatile microfluidic probe in SU-8 hard-polymer, and a microfabricated millimeter-wave measurement system for the identification and characterization of niosome (non-ionic surfactant vesicle) constituents, which is operated in a label-free, non-invasive manner. 4. 9. New methods and reagents for small scale synthesis of phosphor organic compounds with focus on the phosphonic acids and their analogues

    Författare :Rikard Wärme; Dan Johnels; Jacek Stawinski; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; micro scale; phosphorus oxyacids; solid phase; chlorination; fluorination; radiolabelling; Organic synthesis; Organisk syntes; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The development of a synthetic method of radiolabelled methylphosphono-fluoridates on a milligram scale is presented. The aim of this method is, besides affording high yield, to choose reaction pathways and reagents so that handling and transfer of labelled toxic substances is minimised, thereby reducing the risk of exposure as much as possible. 5. 10. Topographical micro-changes in corrugated board production : effects on flexographic post-print quality

    Författare :Marcus Rehberger; Nils Enlund; Gunnar Engström; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; corrugated board; liner; double-facer; double-backer; gloss; surface roughness; micro structure; wear; paper metal friction; flexo; ink-jet; print quality; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The appearance and design of a package are key properties to attract and to focus the attention of a customer. Print quality contributes to a great degree to achieve these requirements. Most critical perceived in terms of quality are print defects like mottling, gloss and stripiness, which all appear in the printing of corrugated board. LÄS MER
