1. Life Prediction and Mechanical Behavior of Thermal Barrier Coatings
Sammanfattning : Delamination and spallation of thermal barrier coating (TBC) systems, used in hot parts of gas turbines, have been studied with respect to thermal fatigue. TBCs with and without pre-existing cracks were investigated. Thermal shock tests were performed until coating spallation. LÄS MER
2. Adhesion to machined and laser ablated wood surfaces
Sammanfattning : This thesis is a contribution to the R&D-program ValueActivation at KTH,Division of Wood Technology and Processingand containsfive papers related to the evaluation and development ofmachining techniques (mechanical and irradiation treatments)whereby weak boundaries at the wood surfaces in the form of(mechanical) weak boundary layers and (micro) cracks due tomechanical treatment can be avoided. The first paper describes the development of a methodusing a UV laserto study the mechanically weakenedboundaries. 3. Micro-mechanical mechanisms for deformation in polymer-material structures
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the focus has been on micro-mechanical mechanisms in polymer-based materials and structures. The first part of the thesis treats length-scale effects on polymer materials. Experiments have showed that the smaller the specimen, the stronger is the material. LÄS MER
4. Influence of heat on the physical and mechanical properties of selected rock types
Sammanfattning : Impelled by the increase in the number of tunnel fires in the last decade alone, wide spread attention has been drawn towards tunnel fire safety studies. Many of these fires occurred in road and railway tunnels involving vehicles and trains. LÄS MER
5. DIFFUSION OF IONS IN WOOD
Sammanfattning : Wood sourced from well managed plantations or forests, is a renewable material with many advantages over non-renewable (fossil) material, and also wood lignocelluloses are the only type of biomass that is a seasonal-independent product. In addition to direct utilization as a building material, major uses of wood are currently for making pulp and paper products, and fuel. LÄS MER
