  1. 6. Shaping Macroporous Ceramics : templated synthesis, X-ray tomography and permeability

    Författare :Linnéa Andersson; Lennart Bergström; Ludwig Gauckler; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alumina; ceramic; CO2 capture; colloidal processing; expandable microspheres; gel casting; layer-by-layer; macroporosity; near-net shape; non-destructive evaluation; permeability; porosity; sacrificial templating; X-ray computed tomography; Chemistry; Kemi; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Sammanfattning : Macroporous ceramic materials have found widespread technological application ranging from particulate filters in diesel engines, tissue engineering scaffolds, and as support materials in carbon capture processes. This thesis demonstrates how the pore space of macroporous alumina can be manipulated, analysed in three-dimensions (3D) using visualisation techniques, and functionalised with a CO2-adsorbing material. 2. 7. X-ray Phase Contrast Tomography : Setup and Scintillator Development

    Författare :Hanna Dierks; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; x-rays; x-ray imaging; x-ray microscopy; X-ray detectors; perovskites; laboratory setups; phase contrast; μCT; scintillator; Phase contrast PC ; Tomography x-ray computed ;

    Sammanfattning : X-ray microscopy and micro-tomography (μCT) are valuable non-destructive examination methods in many disciplines such as bio-medical research, archaeometry, material science and paleontology. Besides being implemented at synchrotrons radiation sources, laboratory setups using an X-ray tube and high-resolution scintillation detector routinely provide information on the micrometre scale. 3. 8. Enhancing the stability of probiotics: Freeze-drying and encapsulation

    Författare :Shuai Bai; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; freeze-drying; lyophilization; L.ruteri; Probiotics; Lyoprotectant; Structure; Encapsulating material; Pore size; Material thickness; SEM; Tomography; Storage stability; Amorphous sugars; Glass transition temperature; DSC;

    Sammanfattning : This research dives into the intricate world of freeze-drying, an essential process in pharmaceutical and probiotic industries, to better understand the factors affecting probiotic stability during storage. The process of freeze-drying and the composition of freeze-dried products significantly affect the stability of probiotics, yet factors such as the material’s encapsulation properties remain relatively unexplored, demanding further research. 4. 9. Dynamic changes in T cell compartments and new approaches in evaluating DSS induced and Gai2 deficient colitis

    Författare :Maria Fritsch Fredin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :colitis; Gai2- - mice; dextran sodium sulfate; ex vivo cultures; micro-Computed Tomography; IEL; thymus; Inflammatory Bowel Disease;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to increase the understanding of the immunopathology of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). The first aim was to elucidate how the thymus and the gut epithelium were affected by colitis. The second aim was to investigate new ways of assessing and monitoring colitis. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Pain in Osteoarthritic Joints: Biological Signaling and 3D Models based on Imaging

    Författare :Birgitta Gatenholm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Osteoarthritis; pain in knee joints; cartilage lesions; micro-computed tomography; 3D CAD models; neuropeptides;

    Sammanfattning : Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common joint disease, causing disability in middle-aged and elderly patients worldwide and imposing a huge socioeconomic burden. OA of the knee joint is a major cause of joint pain and, along with back pain, it accounts for the two most-reported causes of chronic pain. LÄS MER
