  1. 21. How the sensory ecology of the bumblebee affects their functional traits

    Författare :Vun Wen Jie; Emily Baird; Mikael Carlsson; Martin How; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bumblebee; functional morphological traits; intraspecific differences; allometry; DRA; micro-CT; co-existence; Functional Zoomorphology; funktionell zoomorfologi;

    Sammanfattning : Morphological traits are important for trait-based ecological studies as they allow for the prediction of biodiversity across the biosphere. Currently, the predictive power of trait-based ecology is not often applied to terrestrial arthropods, even though they provide us with important agricultural, ecological, and cultural value. 2. 22. On minimally invasive approaches to sinus lift procedures

    Författare :Lars-Åke Johansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; autogenous bone graft; bone formation; clinical study; cone beam computed tomography; dental implants; ; flapless surgery; hydroxyapatite; osteotome technique; partially dentate maxillae; sinus lift surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Aims: The overall aim of the present thesis was to evaluate implant survival and bone regeneration after minimally invasive sinus lift procedures. Material and methods: In study I, 61 patients were prospectively evaluated 12 to 60 months after two different methods of locally bone harvesting methods adjacent to the maxillary sinus lift procedure. 3. 23. Molecular, micro- and ultrastructural investigations of labile tissues in deep time

    Författare :Johan Gren; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; eumelanin; fossils; histology; integument; IR microspectroscopy; melanin; melanosomes; molecular palaeontology; ToF-SIMS; XAS;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis comprises investigations of microstructures and molecular remains, preserved in a variety of fossil specimens. The results are presented in six papers, collectively aiming to thoroughly examine fossil traces of such remains by employing a combination of both established and relatively new analytical methods. 4. 24. Improving trace metal characterisation of ore deposits through multi-modal, multi-scale, and multi-dimensional micro-analysis

    Författare :Mathis Warlo; Christina Wanhainen; Glenn Bark; Alan R Butcher; Nigel Cook; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ore Geology; Malmgeologi;

    Sammanfattning : The variety and amount of metals consumed by human society is ever increasing. Meeting the demand requires exploration for new ore deposits, efficient production of active mines, and improved efficiency in metal recycling. A key element in mining-related enterprises is the improvement of ore characterisation. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Evaluation of the Dual-Modal usage of contrast agents by means of Synchrotron X-ray Computed Microtomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging using Macrophages loaded with Barium Sulfate and Gadolinium Nanoparticles for Detection and Monitoring in Animal Disease Models

    Författare :Emanuel Larsson; Kajsa Uvdal; Agostino Accardo; Giuliana Tromba; Albert E. Siegbahn; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : ¨This thesis focuses on evaluating the dual-modal Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) capabilities of contrast agents. For such purposes a gadolinium based contrast agent is of high interest, due to its paramagnetic properties, which while present inside a magnetic field will hence interact with the protons spins of water (in tissue and fat) and shorten their the T1 relaxation time, thereby creating a positive image contrast in MRI.
