1. Vitamin B12 and folate depletion in the elderly. Diagnosis, clinical correlates and causes
Sammanfattning : Subclinical vitamin B12 and folate deficiency is common in the elderly. The clinical significance remains unresolved. There is not a universally accepted set of laboratory criteria for diagnosis, however subclinical deficiency is important to diagnose since it is easy to treat. LÄS MER
2. Cobalamin/folate status and its relation to cognition and behaviour in psychogeriatric patients
Sammanfattning : The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic potentials of four different biochemical markers, serum cobalamin, blood folate, plasma homocysteine and serum methylmalonic acid for diagnosis of cobalamin/folate deficiency in a psychogeriatric population. The second aim was to investigate the relationship between these markers and various clinical and functional parameters of the nervous system in patients with dementia disorders. LÄS MER

Once formed the ring structure of cholesterol cannot be catabolised by the body and must therefore be converted to other compounds for excretion. LÄS MER
5. Studies on Vitamin B12 and Folate Deficiency Markers in the Elderly : A Population-based Study
Sammanfattning : The aims of this study were to document the levels of cobalamin, folate, methylmalonic acid (MMA) and total homocysteine (tHcy) in serum and their relations to symptoms, clinical findings, and other factors in order to improve the possibilities of detecting early deficiency of vitamin B12 or folate, and to study the effects of cobalamin and folic acid treatment over a three-year period. The study population consisted of a 20% random sample of persons 70 years or older living in Älvkarleby in mid-Sweden. LÄS MER
