1. Conjoint analysis as a tool for communication and corporate environmental decision-making
Sammanfattning : Conjoint analysis has been used extensively in marketing, transportation and healthcare for the past 50 years. Since the mid-1990s, it has also been applied to an increasing number of environmental issues. In this thesis, conjoint analysis is applied to environmental objectives of the Swedish steel industry. 2. Repair or replace? Guidance from indicators and life cycle assessment on circular economy strategies for energy-using products
Sammanfattning : Various circular economy (CE) strategies, such as use extension with repair or reuse, have been suggested as a means for addressing the increasing resource and environmental footprint of society. To identify effective CE strategies, companies or policy makers seek guidance from the evaluation of resource use and environmental impact of alternatives that introduce different CE strategies to product systems. 3. Groundwater resources in hard rock coastal terrains : Insights into heterogeneity and spatial variability
Sammanfattning : Challenges regarding water security in hard rock coastal regions with limited soil cover are: a seasonal absence of recharge during times of peak residency, heterogeneity and variability of the fracture network, close proximity to saline water sources and spatially inconsistent storage and extraction. In areas where it is not feasible to connect residents to municipal water systems, a better understanding of the resilience of reservoirs is needed. LÄS MER
4. Re-viewing industrial energy-efficiency improvement using a widened system boundary
Sammanfattning : Improved energy efficiency in industry is important for reaching the targets within the EU strategy for increased sustainability. However, energy efficiency is not always prioritised within companies, and the improvement potential remains large. This paradox called an energyefficiency gap is explained by energy-efficiency barriers. LÄS MER
5. Assessing Soil Functions for Sustainable Remediation of Contaminated Sites
Sammanfattning : Soil contamination is a worldwide problem. Soil remediation is often carried out to reduce the risks posed by contaminants in the soil to human health and environment. Contaminant concentration is typically the only soil quality aspect maintained in remediation projects. LÄS MER
