  1. 1. How do metamorphic fluids move through rocks? : An investigation of timescales, infiltration mechanisms and mineralogical controls

    Författare :Barbara I. Kleine; Alasdair D. L. Skelton; John C. Schumacher; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metamorphic fluid flow; fluid-rock interaction; fluid infiltration mechanisms; fluid flux rates; thermodynamic modeling; reaction front propagation; fluid flux calculation; Geology; geologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to provide a better understanding of the role of mountain building in the carbon cycle. The amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere due to metamorphic processes is largely unknown. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Fluid-induced alteration of metasedimentary rocks in the Scottish Highlands

    Författare :Alexander Lewerentz; Alasdair Skelton; Patrick Crill; Charlotte Möller; Jay Ague; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metamorphic fluids; metamorphic fluid flow; fluid-rock interaction; metamorphic fluid fluxes; Geology; geologi;

    Sammanfattning : Fluids, mainly H2O and CO2, are released from H- and C-bearing phases during prograde metamorphism. Because of the buoyancy of these fluids, they rise within the crust towards the surface of the Earth. Metamorphic fluids take advantage of permeable horizons, shear zones, fold hinges, fractures, and are channelled into high-flux zones. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Metamorphic zircon formation in gabbroic rocks – the tale of microtextures

    Författare :Victoria Beckman; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Zircon formation; metamorphism; prograde; gabbr; zircon; baddeleyite; zircon; baddeleyite; metamorphic; prograde; zircon textures;

    Sammanfattning : Dating of metamorphic events is crucial for the understanding and reconstruction of large-scale geological processes such as orogenesis. Zircon is one of the most commonly used minerals for dating of igneous and metamorphic events. Zircon incorporates uranium and excludes lead during crystallization, and with time the uranium decays to lead. LÄS MER

  4. 4. How do fluids move through rocks? : High fluxes of CO2 in the Earth's crust

    Författare :Barbara Kleine; Alasdair Skelton; Iain Pitcairn; Sandra Piazolo; Jaroslaw Majka; Zhihong Zhao; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metamorphic fluid flow; blueschist preservation; fluid-rock interaction; Geology; geologi;

    Sammanfattning : Metamorphic hydrous, CO2-bearing fluids play a critical role in the global carbon cycle. However, how big this influence is on the global carbon cycle and therefore on global climatic processes, is unknown. The actual amount of CO2 which is released into the atmosphere due to metamorphic processes is still debated. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Metamorphism in the roots of mountain belts and its effect on rock technical properties : A case study of the Eastern Segment, Sveconorwegian orogen

    Författare :Cindy Urueña; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sveconorwegian; metamorphism; hydrous fluids; microtextures; recrystallization; aggregate properties;

    Sammanfattning : Deciphering the metamorphic evolution of the roots of mountain belts is essential for understanding deep tectonic processes involved in mountain building. The Sveconorwegian orogen in southwestern Scandinavia, formed during the Rodinia assembly in the transition between the Mesoproterozoic and Neoproterozoic Eras, has been exhumed and provides access to interior deep structural levels of the ancient mountain belt.
