  1. 16. Metal Speciation and Toxicity in Sewage Sludge

    Författare :Annika Ekvall; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; partition coefficient; toxicity; speciation; sewage sludge; fractionation; metals;

    Sammanfattning : Increasingly stringent controls on metal concentrations in sewage sludge destined for agricultural application provided a basis for the study of the relevance of metal speciation in sewage sludge. A comprehensive literature review identified difficulties in relating metal speciation through single chemical extractions to plant uptake and soil toxicity. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Sustainable management of dredged sediments : potential recovery of valuable compounds

    Författare :Laura Ferrans; William Hogland; Monica Odlare; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Dredged sediments; nutrients; metals; speciation; recovery; characterisation; beneficial use; life cycle assessment; extraction; plant-growing substrate; circular economy; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science;

    Sammanfattning : Dredging of sediments occurs worldwide to increase water depth in harbours, bays, lakes and rivers, as well as to recover aquatic ecosystems. Landfilling and open-ocean discharge are traditional disposal routes for dredged material. However, the methods are restricted by environmental and legal concerns. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Use and environmental impact of antifouling paints in the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Maria Alexandra Bighiu; Ann-Kristin Eriksson-Wiklund; Bethanie Carney Almroth; Manu Soto; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; boats; antifouling paints; metals; XRF; in situ; caging; Theodoxus fluviatilis; toxicity; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Biocide-based antifouling (AF) paints are the most common method for preventing biofouling, i.e. the growth of algae, barnacles and other organisms on boat hulls. AF paints for leisure boats are predominantly based on copper (Cu) as the main biocide, with zinc (Zn) present as a pigment and stabilizer. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Peat Coated with Iron Oxides : Purification of Metal(loid)-Contaminated Water and Treatment of the Spent Adsorbent

    Författare :Alfreda Kasiuliene; Jurate Kumpiene; Ivan Carabante; Prosun Bhattacharya; Luke Beesly; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; iron-peat; adsorption; arsenic; metals; combustion; hydrothermal carbonisation; landfilling; Avfallsteknik; Waste Science and Technology;

    Sammanfattning : In Sweden due to the industrial activities, such as wood impregnation, multiple point sources of arsenic (As) contamination in soil and water bodies are scattered over the country. Metals, such as chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), lead (Pb), nickel (Ni), cadmium (Cd) or zinc (Zn) at varying concentrations are usually present as well. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Occurrence and environmental risk assessment of antifouling paint biocides from leisure boats

    Författare :Maria Lagerström; Ann-Kristin Eriksson Wiklund; Erik Ytreberg; Kent Salo; Andrew Turner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Antifouling paint; XRF; leisure boat; recreational boating; copper; zinc; tributyltin; organotin compounds; risk assessment; biocide; metals; release rate; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The use of biocidal antifouling (AF) paints is the most common way to prevent fouling on leisure boat hulls. The main aim of this thesis was to investigate the pathways through which AF biocides, past and present, may reach the environment through their use on leisure boats and to improve the risk assessment of biocidal AF paints intended for amateur use.
