1. Magnetic Heterostructures : The Effect of Compositional Modulation on Magnetic Properties
Sammanfattning : The effect of compositional modulation on structural and magnetic properties of magnetic heterostructures was explored. The systems under focus were ferromagnetic superlattices Fe81Ni19/Co, metal-insulator multilayers Al2O3/Ni81Fe19, nanoparticles and artificial multilayered pillars. LÄS MER
2. Magnetism of Semiconductors and Metallic Multilayers
Sammanfattning : Magnetic properties of diluted magnetic semiconductors and magnetic metallic multilayers are investigated by SQUID magnetometry. By doping GaAs with magnetic Mn2+ ions under well defined growth conditions, one obtains a diluted magnetic semiconductor, (Ga,Mn)As, in which the randomly-distributed magnetic ions act as acceptor centers. 3. Towards atomically resolved magnetic measurements in the transmission electron microscope : A study of structure and magnetic moments in thin films
Sammanfattning : The magnetic properties of thin metallic films are significantly different from the bulk properties due to the presence of interfaces. The properties shown by such thin films are influenced by the atomic level structure of the films and the interfaces. LÄS MER
4. Magnetism and Structure in Metallic Multilayers
Sammanfattning : The interplay between magnetism and structure has been studied in magnetic multilayers by electronic structure calculations based on density functional theory and analyzed in terms of models. The main ideas behind the Korringa-Kohn-Rostocker Green’s function method are described and the implementation of the coherent potential approximation is outlined. LÄS MER
5. On the Properties of Some Strongly Correlated Systems - Analytical and Numerical Studies
Sammanfattning : This thesis is dedicated to analytical and numerical studiesof a few models of strongly correlated systems and thedevelopment of techniques for such studies. The common name"strongly correlated" refers to systems in which theinteractions (correlations) between the constituent particleslead to nontrivial properties, such as various types ofmagnetism, superconductivity, and exotic phases.
