  1. 1. Nanocellulose and Its Biohybrids for Water Purification : Atomic Force Microscopy as a Tool to Probe Surface Properties and Interactions

    Författare :Chuantao Zhu; Aji P. Mathew; Sven Öberg; Monika Österberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atomic force microscopy; nanocellulose; water purification; surface interaction; biohybrids; self-assembly; metal ion clustering; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Sammanfattning : Nanocellulose has been explored extensively in recent years as an adsorbent due to its promising performance in the removal of charged contaminants from water. In this thesis, various atomic force microscopy (AFM) techniques are used to understand the surface characteristics and specific interactions of nanocellulose with water contaminants (heavy metal ions and dyes) and nanoscale entities (Graphene Oxide (GO) and Graphene Oxide nanocolloids (nanoGO)), and explain the mechanisms related to adsorption, metal ion clustering, self-assembly and mechanical reinforcement. 2. 2. Structure determination, thermal stability and catalytic mechanism of hyperthermostable isocitrate dehydrogenases

    Författare :Mikael Karlström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :X-ray crystallography; isocitrate dehydrogenase; thermostability; catalytic mechanism;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, studies on the enzyme isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) from the hyperthermophiles Aeropyrum pernix (ApIDH), Thermotoga maritima (TmIDH), Archaeoglobus fulgidus (AfIDH) and Pyrococcus furiosus (PfIDH) are presented. The aim of the described work was to contribute to the understanding of protein thermostability and to study the catalytic mechanism. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Oxygen Vacancy Chemistry in Ceria

    Författare :Jolla Kullgren; Kersti Hermansson; Shluger Alex; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ceria; Density Functional Theory; Oxygen storage; Nano crystals; Sulfur poisoning; Chemistry with specialization in Inorganic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot oorganisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Cerium(IV) oxide (CeO2), ceria, is an active metal oxide used in solid oxide fuel cells and for the purification of exhaust gases in vehicle emissions control. Behind these technically important applications of ceria lies one overriding feature, namely ceria's exceptional reduction-oxidation properties. LÄS MER
