21. Hydrophobic Fusion Tags: Implications For Bioseparation and Cellular Expression
Sammanfattning : The studies in this thesis have shown that the partitioning of endoglucanase I (EGI, Cel7B) from T. reesei could be significantly improved by relatively minor genetic engineering. By adding short peptides composed of tryptophan and proline residues to EGI, extreme partitioning could be obtained. LÄS MER
22. Separation Methods in Membrane Proteomics -Integration of Aqueous Two-Phase Partitioning for Enrichment and Pre-Fractionation
Sammanfattning : The study of the protein complement of a genome is called proteomics. Proteomics can be defined as identification, quantification and characterization of a total set of proteins expressed at different time-points or under different cellular states to provide global information about biological processes. 23. Protein Complexity via Non-Native States: Binding, Stability, and Structural Studies of Calbindin D9k and HAMLET (Human alpha-lactalbumin Made LEthal to Tumor cells)
Sammanfattning : Using optical spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and differential scanning Calorimetry (DSC), I have studied two different calcium binding proteins that can form kinetically trapped altered states. Calcium is very important in numerous biological processes such as blood coagulation, signal transduction, muscle contraction and bone formation. LÄS MER
24. Functionally-associated target antigens in cancer. Defined by human antibodies and small interfering RNAs
Sammanfattning : Cancer is the collective name for diseases that have one thing in common ? uncontrolled cell growth. The increase in cancer cell proliferation eventually results in tumor formation and, in the worst case, metastatic spread to other organs. Common treatment modalities of cancer include chemotherapy and radiation therapy. LÄS MER
25. Effects of Protons and Small Alcohols on the Oxygen-Evolving Complex of Photosystem II
Sammanfattning : Higher plants and algae use oxygenic photosynthesis to convert solar energy to reducing equivalents and chemical energy. The ultimate electron donor to oxygenic photosynthesis is water. Oxidation of water to oxygen occurs in the oxygen-evolving complex (OEC) in Photosystem II (PSII). The OEC is composed of four Mn atoms, Ca2+ and Cl-. LÄS MER
