  1. 1. Psychological factors and metabolic control in insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus

    Författare :Ulf Stenström; Institutionen för psykologi; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus; social support; gender; age; long-term complications; metabolic control; quality of life; well-being; insulin-pen treatment; coping; life events; locus of control beliefs; longitudinal; Applied and experimental psychology; Tillämpad och experimentell psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis consists of six studies concerning persons with insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM). The first two deal with relationships between life events, social support and metabolic control (HbA1C) over a two year period. For the female subjects, results obtained for this period were inconsistent. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Glutamate for metabolic intervention in coronary surgery : with special reference to the GLUTAMICS-trial

    Författare :Mårten Vidlund; Rolf Svedjeholm; Torbjörn Ivert; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; myocardial ischemia; coronary artery bypass; cardiac surgery; acute coronary syndrome; glutamate; metabolic intervention; postoperative heart failure; myocardial recovery; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Myocardial ischemia is a major cause of postoperative heart failure and adverse outcome in coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG). Conventional treatment of postoperative heart failure with inotropic drugs may aggravate underlying ischemic injury. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Metabolic Risk Factors and Molecular Subtypes of Colorectal Cancer

    Författare :Robin Myte; Bethany van Guelpen; Richard Palmqvist; Jenny Häggström; Matty Weijenberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Colorectal cancer; risk factors; metabolic syndrome; one-carbon metabolism; molecular subtypes; KRAS; BRAF; MSI; molecular pathological epidemiology; Cancer Epidemiology; cancerepidemiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a heterogeneous disease developing from distinct pathways, resulting in tumor subtypes with large differences in clinical and molecular characteristics. Molecular characteristics are increasingly being used clinically to guide therapy. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Identifying risk of type 2 diabetes : epidemiologic perspectives from biomarkers to lifestyle

    Författare :Margareta Norberg; Lars Weinehall; Jan W Eriksson; Christer Andersson; Mai-Lis Hellénius; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 2 diabetes mellitus; metabolic syndrome; prediction; stress; social support; smokeless tobacco; risk; obesity; lifestyle; psychosocial; clinical markers; case-referent study; cohort study; Epidemiology; Epidemiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes is a significant health problem because of its high prevalence and strong association with cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. An increase of type 2 diabetes is predicted due to increasing obesity and sedentary lifestyle habits. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Fatty Acid Desaturase Activities in Metabolic Syndrome and Cardiovascular Disease : Special Reference to Stearoyl-CoA-Desaturase and Biomarkers of Dietary Fat

    Författare :Eva Warensjö; Ulf Risérus; Bengt Vessby; Tommy Cederholm; David Laaksonen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Nutrition; Fatty acids; Dietary fat; Biomarker; Metabolic Syndrome; Mortality; Obesity; Insulin Sensitivity; Epidemiology; Estimated desaturase activities; Stearoyl-CoA-desaturase; delta-6-desaturase; delta-5-desaturase; Single Nucleotide Polymorphism; Dietary Intervention; Rapeseed oil; Saturated fat; SCD1; Näringslära;

    Sammanfattning : The development of the metabolic syndrome (MetS) and cardiovascular diseases have been suggested to be influenced more by the quality than the amount of dietary fat. The FA composition of serum lipids may be used as biomarkers of dietary fat quality. LÄS MER
