1. Conjugated linoleic acid and the metabolic syndrome : Clinical and metabolic studies with special reference to insulin resistance, oxidative stress and inflammation
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the metabolic effects of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) in middle-aged men with the metabolic syndrome, a high-risk group for type 2 diabetes. CLA is a group of fatty acid isomers with antiobesity and antidiabetogenic effects in animals, and CLA is therefore used as a supplement in humans. LÄS MER
2. Adipose markers of metabolic outcome after weight loss
Sammanfattning : Adipose tissue is closely linked to metabolic disturbances in obesity. Bariatric surgery such as roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) remains the most effective treatment of obesity and obesity-related disease. LÄS MER
3. Studies on nutrition, body composition and bone mineralization in healthy 8-yr-olds in an urban Swedish community

The results from a study of healthy pre-school children showed that in a population with well educated parents 17% of the children were overweight or obese at the age of 4 years. LÄS MER
4. Clinical Manifestations of Coronary Heart Disease and the Metabolic Syndrome : A Population-based Study in Middle-aged Men in Uppsala
Sammanfattning : During the past decades the knowledge concerning risk factors and pathophysiology of coronary heart disease (CHD) has substantially increased. However, despite identification of important risk factors CHD remains the leading cause of death in the western world. LÄS MER
5. Tenomodulin, serum amyloid A and the serum amyloid A receptor selenoprotein S – implications for metabolic disease
Sammanfattning : Obesity and obesity-related metabolic diseases are associated with a low-grade inflammation, including slightly increased serum levels of the acute phase protein serum amyloid A (A-SAA). A-SAA is one amongst several adipose tissue (AT) produced proteins suggested to influence development of metabolic diseases. LÄS MER
