  1. 1. Mild head injury : inhospital observation or computed tomography?

    Författare :Jean-Luc af Geijerstam; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Decision analysis; inhospital observation; management strategy; metaanalysis; mild head injury; randomised controlled trial; systematic review; tomography; x-ray computed; triage.;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Patients with mild head injuries are treated every day in emergency departments around the world. The rationale for any management strategy is to identify with a high degree of safety at reasonable costs, patients at risk of deterioration due to serious intracranial injuries. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Integrating legumes in mixed crop-livestock systems in east Africa: Farmers' perceptions, ecosystem services and support for decision making

    Författare :Tarirai Muoni; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Challenges faced by smallholder farmers in east Africa include limited access to inputs, small farm sizes, and erratic rainfall patterns. Legume intensification and species diversification have been recommended for improving food and nutritional security, controlling soil erosion, improving soil fertility, supplying income and providing fuel. Sammanfattning : Background: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by impaired attention and hyperactivity/impulsivity. ADHD is associated with several comorbidities and health-related outcomes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Modelling of drug-effect on time-varying biomarkers

    Författare :Felix Held; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cortisol; TNFα; hierarchical modelling; turnover model; pharmacokinetic pharmacodynamic modelling; cortisol TNFα hierarchical modelling turnover model pharmacokinetic pharmacodynamic modelling;

    Sammanfattning : Model-based quantification of drug effect is an efficient tool during pre-clinical and clinical phases of drug trials. Mathematical modelling can lead to improved understanding of the underlying biological mechanisms, help in finding shortcomings of experimental design and suggest improvements, or be an effective tool in simulation-based analyses. 5. 5. Diet and gastrointestinal cancer : one-carbon metabolism and other aspects

    Författare :Susanna C Larsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Diet has been hypothesized to play a major role in the etiology of gastrointestinal cancer, but the specific dietary factors involved remain unclear. The aims of this thesis were: to examine the associations of dietary magnesium and vitamin B6 intakes with risk of colorectal cancer in the Swedish Mammography Cohort (SMC); to evaluate the relation between folate intake and risk of pancreatic cancer in the SMC and the Cohort of Swedish Men (COSM); to use metaanalysis to summarize the evidence from published studies of the associations of folate intake and polymorphisms in the gene encoding 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR C677T and A1298C), a central enzyme in one-carbon metabolism, with risk of esophageal, gastric, pancreatic, and colorectal cancer; and to perform a meta-analysis of epidemiologic studies of the relationship between processed meat consumption and risk of gastric cancer.
