1. Computational Modeling of Biological Membrane and Interface Dynamics

2. Collective Electron Dynamics in Mesoscopic Systems
Sammanfattning : This work is devoted to a theoretical investigation of collective electron dynamics in low dimensional materials and mesoscopic structures. A common feature of these studies is the focus on the properties of the low energy dynamics of conduction electrons. One class of studied materials is the high-Tc superconductor Nd2CuO4 and related compounds. LÄS MER
3. Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Fluid Lipid Membranes
Sammanfattning : Lipid molecules form thin biological membranes that envelop all living cells, and behave as two-dimensional liquid sheets immersed in bulk water. The interactions of such biomembranes with their environment lay the foundation of a plethora of biological processes rooted in the mesoscopic domain - length scales of 1-1000 nm and time scales of 1-1000 ns. 4. Resonant switching and vortex dynamics in spin-flop bi-layers
Sammanfattning : This thesis is a study of the static and dynamic behavior of the magne-tization in spin-flop bi-layers, which consist of two soft ferromagnetic layerscoupled by dipolar forces through a thin nonmagnetic spacer. The focus ofthe work is three fold: collective spin dynamics in the anti-parallel groundstate; resonant switching in the presence of thermal agitation; and static anddynamic behavior of the system in the vortex-pair state, with a particularemphasis on the interlayer core-core interaction. 5. Local Structure and Dynamics of Next Generation Electrolytes - linking microscopic and macroscopic properties
Sammanfattning : The electrolyte is a crucial part of a battery in terms of performance, longevity and safety. However, the state-of-the-art electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries are based on organic solvents and Li-salts (typically at 1M concentration) which are volatile and degrade at higher temperatures.
