11. Minimising risk and optimising technique in ventral hernia repair
Sammanfattning : Background: Abdominal wall hernia is a common pathology and adverse events related to hernia repair is thus a topic of considerable importance. Hernia is a disease that affect both sexes and people of all ages. The thesis is based upon four papers. Study I, II and III are analysing complications related to ventral hernia repair. LÄS MER
12. Aspects on the use of slowly degradable mesh in inguinal hernia surgery
Sammanfattning : Background: Synthetic non-degradable mesh used in inguinal hernia surgery can cause chronic inflammation, which in turn can lead to chronic post-operative pain (CPP). Theoretically, a degradable mesh could reduce the risk of chronic pain. LÄS MER
13. Femoral and Inguinal Hernia : How to Minimize Adverse Outcomes Following Repair
Sammanfattning : Groin hernia is common, and each year 200 repairs per 100 000 adult inhabitants are performed in Sweden. Groin hernias are either inguinal or femoral (2-4%). Elective repair is not associated with an excess mortality, but adverse outcomes include recurrence and long-term pain. LÄS MER
14. Vaginal prolapse surgery : an epidemiological perspective : studies of native tissue repair versus implants, surgeons´ practical experiences and five year follow-up in the swedish national quality register for gynecological surgery
Sammanfattning : Background: Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a common condition that impacts on quality of life for many women. The mean age of Swedish women operated for POP is 60 years, and with a life expectancy of approximately 84 years this means that the average patient will live 24 years subsequent to the operation. 15. Transvaginal mesh for pelvic organ prolapse : clinical and histological aspects
Sammanfattning : The objectives of this thesis were to assess the objective, clinical, and sexual outcomes after transvaginal surgery for pelvic organ prolapse using a trocar guided mesh kit, to ascertain the vaginal in vivo histological inflammatory response to large mesh, and to identify possible risk factors associated with exposures after transvaginal mesh surgery. A prospective multicenter cohort study was performed between June 2006 and March 2007 throughout 26 clinics in the Nordic countries. LÄS MER
