  1. 6. Diabetic glomerulopathy-natural history, intervention and prediction of complications

    Författare :Nina Perrin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Type 1 diabetes; adolescents; normoalbuminuria; normotension; glomerulopathy; kidney biopsy; ambulatory blood pressure measurement; kidney function tests; risk factors; microalbuminuria; hypertension;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common chronic diseases in childhood. Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is one of the threatening complications of diabetes that occurs in 30-40% of patients after 20 years duration of disease. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Expression profiling of blood vessels in pericyte deficiency and diabetes

    Författare :Jenny Norlin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The kidney glomerulus is essential for the filtration of waste products from the blood into the urine and in controlling the volume and composition of body fluids. Injury to the glomerulus can lead to altered glomerular filtration rate, proteinuria, thickening of the glomerular basement membrane (GBM) and accumulation of mesangial cell matrix. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Studies of the pathogenesis of IgA nephropathy and Henoch-Schönlein purpura, with special reference to Streptococcus pyogenes infections and complement

    Författare :Roland Schmitt; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; IgA nephropathy; Henoch-Schönlein purpura; Streptococcus pyogenes; M protein; complement;

    Sammanfattning : IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is the most common form of primary glomerulonephritis and Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) the most common form of vasculitis in childhood. HSP may affect kidneys, a complication termed Henoch-Schönlein nephropathy (HSN). Renal pathology in HSN resembles that seen in IgAN. The pathogenesis of IgAN and HSP is so far unclear. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Functional analysis of genes in the developing zebrafish pronephros and vasculature

    Författare :Lwaki Ebarasi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : During glomerulogenesis, the recruitment and assembly of visceral epithelial cells (podocytes), endothelial capillary cells, and smooth muscle pericytes (mesangial cells) result in the formation of the glomerular tuft. The mature glomerulus functions by passage of plasma under hemodynamic pressure across a filter, the glomerular filtration barrier, and the integrity of the barrier is crucial for proper function. 5. 10. The role of glycoproteins in glomerular pathophysiology

    Författare :Alina Khramova; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Proteoglycans; Extracellular matrix; IgA nephropathy; Diabetic kidney disease;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is increasing worldwide and has a prevalence of around 10%. With time patients are at risk of losing their renal function and will need dialysis or transplantation for survival. There are no specific treatments available and mechanisms behind the onset and progression of CKD are still not fully investigated. LÄS MER
