  1. 1. Mercury immobilization : a requirement for permanent disposal of mercury waste in Sweden

    Författare :Margareta Svensson; Bert Allard; Anders Düker; Björn Öhlander; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mercury; mercury sulphide; cinnabar; stabilization; solidification; encapsulation; monolith leaching; solubility; mercury speciation; diffusion; apparent diffusion coefficient; Chemistry; Kemi; Enviromental Science; Miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The Swedish Government states that mercury in the Swedish industry and private use shall be collected and waste containing more than 1% of mercury shall be conditioned for permanent storage in proposed groundwater-saturated repository in deep bedrock. The owners of mercury waste in Sweden are responsible for finding ways to the conversion of the mercury waste to insoluble forms. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Unraveling the importance of thiol compounds on mercury speciation, uptake and transformation by the iron-reducer Geobacter sulfurreducens

    Författare :Mareike Franziska Gutensohn; Erik Björn; Ulf Skyllberg; Jeffra K. Schaefer; Vera Slaveykova; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mercury; low molecular mass thiols; speciation; uptake; methylation; reduction; Hg 0 ; Hg II ; MeHg; Geobacter sulfurreducens; ICP-MS; LC-MS MS; X-ray absorption spectroscopy; cell physiology;

    Sammanfattning : The biogenic methylation of inorganic, divalent mercury (Hg(II)) by methylating microorganisms leads to formation and bioaccumulation of monomethyl mercury (MeHg) in the environment and can cause severe damage to ecosystems and human health. Diverse microorganisms carry the gene sequence hgcAB and are able to methylate Hg(II) intracellularly. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On the reliability of methods for the speciation of mercury based on chromatographic separation coupled to atomic spectrometric detection

    Författare :Johanna Qvarnström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; Mercury; speciation; hyphenated techniques; HPLC; CE; GC; CV-AAS; ICP-MS; species-specific enriched stable isotope; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the reliability of methods for the speciation of mercury in environmental and biological samples. Problems with speciation methods that couple chromatography to atomic spectrometric detection and how to overcome the problems are discussed. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Mercury species transformations in marine and biological systems studied by isotope dilution mass spectrometry and stable isotope tracers

    Författare :Lars Lambertsson; Wolfgang Frech; John Munthe; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; Mercury; methylmercury; ethylmercury; Thimerosal; speciation; methylation; demethylation; brackish water sediment; natural waters; GC-ICP-MS; species-specific isotope dilution; isotope enriched tracers; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the implementation of species-specific isotope dilution (SSID) methodology and stable isotope tracers to determine mercury species occurrence and transformation processes in-situ and during sample treatment. Isotope enriched tracers of methyl-, ethyl- and inorganic mercury were synthesised and applied in different combinations to marine and biological samples. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Remediation of mercury polluted soil

    Författare :Thomas Lifvergren; Bert Allard; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :soil pollution; soil remediaion; mercury; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Enviromental Science; Miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Mercury in contaminated soil constitutes a wide spectrum of species with highly different properties due to the chemical complexity of the element. Assessments of risk, ecological effects and removal potential require process and mobility studies. LÄS MER
