21. THE ROLE OF DENDRITIC CELLS AND TYPE I INTERFERON IN THE GENERATION AND FUNCTION OF T FOLLICULAR HELPER CELLS
Sammanfattning : Generation of long-lived plasma cells and memory B cells of high affinity takes place in germinal centers and depends on help from a specialized CD4+ T cell subset termed T follicular helper (Tfh) cells. These processes are crucial for long-term protection upon natural infection or in settings of vaccination, however they are also responsible for development of antibody-mediated autoimmune disease. 22. Regulation of B cell function by plasmacytoid dendritic cells
Sammanfattning : Dendritic cells (DCs) are early sentinels of pathogen exposure and central in the initiation and orchestration of adaptive immune responses. Apart from the prominent role of DCs in the activation of T cells, DCs have been shown to influence humoral B cell mediated responses. LÄS MER
23. Methods for studying memory B-cell immunity against malaria
Sammanfattning : Plasmodium falciparum malaria remains one of the world’s deadliest infectious diseases and the search for an effective vaccine is highly warranted. Memory B cells (MBCs) and the antibodies they produce, once activated, is believed to play an important role in the protective immunity against malaria, but the mechanism of acquiring and maintaining these cells is poorly understood. 24. Studies of T- and B-cells for the generation of human antigen specific antibodies
Sammanfattning : Human antibodies generated in vitro may be highly valuable for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. For a long time most human antibodies produced in vitro have been of the IgM isotype with rather low affinities. In this thesis a method for production of IgG switched antigen-specific human antibodies is presented. LÄS MER
25. T cells in patients with B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL) and multiple myeloma (MM) : an immunological study
Sammanfattning : There are several lines of evidence that T cells in patients with Multiple Myeloma (MM) and B-cell Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (B-CLL) are phenotypically aberrant. The overall aim of this thesis was to study T cells with a focus on TCR-signaling pathways in these two B-cell malignancies. The role of T-cells in B-CLL etiology was also examined. LÄS MER
