11. Tethered Lipid Vesicles as Nanoscale Sensor Elements
Sammanfattning : The primary aim of this thesis work has been to explore and advance the potential of surface tethered lipid vesicles as a platform for studying in particular the following three biomembrane-related processes: trans-membrane transport, membrane-peptide interactions and the activity of membrane active enzymes. First, a method based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectroscopy was developed for studying passive diffusion processes as well as the membrane-protein mediated transport of small non electrolyte molecules across lipid bilayers. 12. Housing Aquaporins in Nanostructured Glass
Sammanfattning : Proteins are a group of biomolecules that perform versatile tasks, which in many cases are essential for life. The magnitude of their importance is perhaps expressed by the word protein itself, coined by the Swedish chemist Jöns Jacob Berzelius in the summer of 1838. LÄS MER
13. Functionalization of Synthetic Polymers for Membrane Bioreactors
Sammanfattning : Membrane bioreactors (MBRs) show great promise for productivity improvement and energy conservation in conventional bioprocesses for wastewater reclamation. In order to attain high productivity in a bioprocess, it is crucial to retain the microorganisms in the bioreactors by preventing wash out. LÄS MER
14. Nanoscale technologies for plasmon-assisted solar light harvesting and lipid membrane composites
Sammanfattning : Techniques for design, manipulation and characterization of nanoscale structures provide the basis for technological advances in areas like optics, electronics and biotechnology. The aim of this thesis is to develop new nanoscale methods and design schemes that extend the applicability of nanoscale devices. LÄS MER
15. Membrane Filtration of Lignocellulosic Materials: In situ Monitoring of Membrane Fouling Using Fluid Dynamic Gauging
Sammanfattning : The transition of process industries from utilizing fossil-based resources to bio-based ones necessitates energy-efficient and selective operations. One practical operation that can be employed for processing streams containing lignocellulosic biomass, such as forest and agricultural residues, is membrane separation. LÄS MER
