  1. 16. Apoptosis Regulation via the Mitochondrial Pathway : Membrane Response upon Apoptotic Stimuli

    Författare :Marc-Antoine Sani; Gerhard Grobner; Antoinette Killian; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Apoptosis; BH4 peptide; Bax-α1 peptide; model membrane; cardiolipin; solid phase peptide synthesis; circular dichroism; solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.; Biophysics; Biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was the investigation of the mitochondrial response mechanisms upon apoptotic stimuli. The specific objectives were the biophysical characterization of membrane dynamics and the specific roles of lipids in the context of apoptotic regulation occurring at the mitochondrion and its complex membrane systems. 2. 17. Partitioning of Drugs and Lignin Precursor Models into Artificial Membranes

    Författare :Elisabet Boija; Gunnar Johansson; Per Lundahl; Christine Lagerquist Hägglund; Marja-Liisa Riekkola; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Biochemistry; Bilayer disk; Capillary electrophoresis; Detergent; Drug; Electrostatic interaction; Hydrophobic interaction; Immobilized liposome chromatography; Lignin; Lignin precursor model; Liposome; Membrane model; Octanol water partitioning; Partitioning; Phospholipid; Phospholipid bilayer; Sterol; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The main aim of this thesis was to characterize membrane-solute interactions using artificial membranes in immobilized liposome chromatography or capillary electrophoresis. The partitioning of a solute into a cell membrane is an essential step in diffusion across the membrane. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The development of antimicrobial resistance is a great challenge within health sectors worldwide. Thus, demand for new, efficient treatments is urgent in order to treat various bacterial infections. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are a group of antibiotics that have gained more and more attraction in the past decade. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Plasma membrane arabinogalactan proteins

    Författare :Lars Snogerup; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; arabinogalactan protein plant development cell-cell interaction plasma membrane; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Arabinogalactan proteins (AGPs) are proteoglycans found at the outer side of the plasma membrane and in the extracellular matrix of plants. To be able to study the plasma membrane bound AGPs, a method using SDS-agarose gel electrophoresis (SDS-AGE) was developed to overcome the problems associated with electrophoretic separation of highly glycosylated proteins. 5. 20. Membrane Induced Structure in Transmembrane Signaling Proteins and Peptides : Peptide–Lipid Interactions Studied by Spectroscopic Methods

    Författare :Sofia E. Unnerståle; Lena Mäler; Jason Schnell; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; peptide-lipid interaction; paddle domain; voltage gating; voltage sensor domain; micelle; phospholipid bicelle; solution structure; HAMP domain; nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy; circular dichroism spectroscopy; nonspecific interaction; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : Biological membranes, defining the boundary of cells and eukaryotic organelles, are mainly composed of lipids and membrane proteins. Interactions between these lipids and proteins are needed to preserve the tight seal of the membrane, but also to induce structure for proper function in many membrane proteins. LÄS MER
