  1. 21. Mathematical Modelling of Cerebral Metabolism : From Ion Channels to Metabolic Fluxes

    Författare :Nicolas Sundqvist; Gunnar Cedersund; Maria Engström; Roland Nilsson; Sebastian Sten; João Duarte; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The brain is the most metabolically active organ in the human body and therefore rely on a continuous supply of oxygen and glucose. Neuronal stimulation in specific regions of the leads to the firing of action potentials, a process facilitated by voltage-gated ion channels in the neurons’ cell membranes. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Gating and modulation mechanism of voltage gated sodium channels

    Författare :Koushik Choudhury; Lucie Delemotte; Erik Lindahl; Philip Biggin; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Voltage gated sodium channels; Molecular dynamics simulation; π-helix; open state; Biologisk fysik; Biological Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Voltage-gated sodium channels (Nav channels) play an essential role in nerve impulse conduction in excitable cells. Thus, these channels are involved in several neurological and muscular disorders. Understanding their mechanism of functioning  is essential for designing drugs targeting them. LÄS MER

  3. 23. NMR Investigations of Peptide-Membrane Interactions, Modulation of Peptide-Lipid Interaction as a Switch in Signaling across the Lipid Bilayer

    Författare :Sofia Unnerståle; Lena Mäler; Göran Widmalm; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; peptide-lipid interaction; membrane mimetic; NMR; biophysics; Molecular biophysics; Molekylär biofysik; biofysik; Biophysics;

    Sammanfattning : The complexity of multi cellular organisms demands systems that facilitate communicationbetween cells. The neurons in our brains for instance are specialized in this cell-cellcommunication. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Ion channels and intrinsic membrane properties of locomotor network neurons in the lamprey spinal cord

    Författare :Di Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Ion channels; calcium activated non-selective cation current ICAN ; L-type LVA calcium channels Cav 1.3 ; calcium channels; calcium imaging; NMDA; postinhibitory rebound PIR ; lamprey; central pattern generator CPG ; locomotion;

    Sammanfattning : NMDA-receptor dependent membrane potential oscillations and postinhibitory rebound are examples of intrinsic membrane properties of many neurons of rhythm-generating networks, and are considered to play major roles in the operation of the spinal locomotor network of the lamprey vertebrate model. A significant feature of many lamprey spinal cord neurons is their ability to generate pacemaker-like membrane potential oscillations in the presence of the glutamate agonist NMDA. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Ion channels and electrical activity in vascular smooth muscle: Effects of calcium store depletion, cholesterol and cholesterol-lowering drugs

    Författare :Andreas Bergdahl; Kärlfysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fysiologi; Physiology; statins; endothelin; cholesterol; caveolae; smooth muscle; TRP; Ca2 channels; SOC;

    Sammanfattning : Smooth muscle cells (SMCs) in the vessel wall contract to regulate blood flow and pressure, a function essential for normal circulation through tissues. On the other hand, migration and proliferation of SMCs are important factors in vascular disease, such as atherosclerosis and restenosis following surgical dilatation. LÄS MER
