11. Design and development of a novel textile based bioreactor: : Ethanol and biogas production as case studies
Sammanfattning : Bioreactors are designed to provide enabling conditions for the controlled growth of microorganisms, such as good heat and mass transfer, aeration, hydrodynamics, geometry for adequate gas holdup, pH and foaming control, conditions for optimal substrate consumption and product formation, as well as mechanisms for monitoring microbial conditions. Additionally, bioreactors are designed to handle stress that would be exerted on them by the weight of the fermenting media and by the high pressure used for sterilisation. LÄS MER
12. Plant cell-inspiredmicrocontainers: Fabrication, Characterization and Applications
Sammanfattning : Biomimetic materials have been inspiring mankind since a longtime for applications in a variety of fields. In particular, the production of lipidbasedvesicles have aided in our understanding of a variety of functions in animalcells, and also served as e.g. drug delivery systems and bioreactors. LÄS MER
13. Unlocking Sustainability in Wastewater Denitrification through Waste-Derived Volatile Fatty Acids
Sammanfattning : Carbon sources play a critical role in biological nitrogen removal during wastewater treatment, where strict total nitrogen limits on effluent discharge apply. Organic carbon sources serve as electron donors in the denitrification for heterotrophic denitrifiers. LÄS MER
14. High Cell Density Strategies and Adaptive Evolution for Microbial Propionic Acid Production
Sammanfattning : Propionic acid (PA) is a naturally occurring short chain fatty acid produced by microbial fermentation of the indigestible foods in the intestine, having a positive effect on the gastrointestinal health. PA inhibits the growth of pathogenic bacteria and molds; hence it is widely used as preservative for food, feed and grains. LÄS MER
15. Reactors and biosensors for improved microbial degradation of acetonitrile
Sammanfattning : Biodegradation is becoming an attractive mode of operation for eliminating toxic chemicals released from industrial processes or already present in the environment. One needs, however, not only to identify organisms capable of degrading such chemicals, but also to address the issue of whether these chemicals, after being degraded, will be toxic to the degrading organisms if present in high concentrations.
