11. Prognostic Factors in Malignant Melanoma
Sammanfattning : Because of the failure so far to find effective treatment for patients with advanced stages of melanoma, increasing efforts have been made to find prognostic factors identifying patients in the risk zone for development of metastasis. This thesis investigates the prognostic powers of a few selected serological and immunohistochemical biomarkers. 12. Novel immunotherapies for metastatic melanoma - from mouse models towards clinical trials
Sammanfattning : Immunotherapies including checkpoint blockade and adoptive T cell transfer (ACT) show great promise for the treatment of melanoma, with long-term effects in some patients. However, around half of the patients with metastatic malignant melanoma will not be cured with available therapies today, and these patients require other treatment strategies. LÄS MER
13. Pheomelanin markers in melanoma with reference to their excretion into urine
Sammanfattning : Skin pigmentation is an important issue in most cultures. Until recently we have not understood the most important elements of pigmentation regarding detailed chemical structure. LÄS MER
14. Cutaneous malignant melanoma : body site, sun exposure, genetic factors and prognosis
Sammanfattning : Background: The interplay between tumor site, ultraviolet radiation (UVR) exposure, genetic factors and various epidemiological parameters of cutaneous melanoma is complex. In this thesis, we aimed to investigate the impact of detailed body site of the primary tumor beyond the conventional and strictly anatomic division of the head-neck, trunk, upper- and lower extremities, focusing on body site division according to UVR exposure patterns in relation to risk, outcome and other factors. 15. Isolated regional perfusion for metastases of malignant melanoma - Clinical and experimental studies
Sammanfattning : Background: Isolated regional perfusion is a treatment option mainly for localized metastatic disease. The principle idea is to surgically isolate a region of the body and connect the circulation to a heart-lung machine. A high concentration of a chemotherapeutic agent is then delivered to the tumour, while systemic toxicity is avoided. LÄS MER
