  2. 12. Molecular And Cellular Networks in Critical Illness Associated Muscle Weakness : Skeletal Muscle Proteostasis in the Intensive Care Unit

    Författare :Varuna Chaminda Banduseela; Lars Larsson; Gustavo Nader; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; chaperones; autophagy; intensive care unit; heat shock proteins; protein synthesis; proteostasis; ER stress; gene expression; sepsis; neuromuscular blockers; corticosteroids; immobilisation; mechanical ventilation; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Critical illness associated muscle weakness and muscle dysfunction in intensive care unit (ICU) patients lead to severe morbidity and mortality as well as significant adverse effect on quality of life. Immobilization, mechanical ventilation, neuromuscular blocking agents, corticosteroids, and sepsis have been implicated as important risk factors, but the underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms remain unclear. 3. 13. Imaging and modeling the cardiovascular system

    Författare :Elira Maksuti; Michael Broomé; Anna Bjällmark; Matilda Larsson; Martin Ugander; Patrick Segers; KTH; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cardiac pumping; diastolic function; hemodynamics; modeling; simulation; arterial stiffness; ultrasound; shear wave elastography.; Medical Technology; Medicinsk teknologi; Cardiac pumping;

    Sammanfattning : Understanding cardiac pumping function is crucial to guiding diagnosis, predicting outcomes of interventions, and designing medical devices that interact with the cardiovascular system.  Computer simulations of hemodynamics can show how the complex cardiovascular system is influenced by changes in single or multiple parameters and can be used to test clinical hypotheses. 4. 14. The Anabolic - Anti-catabolic Paradigm of Augmenting Skeletal Regeneration: A Bone Quality Perspective

    Författare :Neashan Mathavan; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bone fracture; Fracture healing; bone quality; Bone biomechanics; bone morphogenetic protein-7; Zoledronate; skeletal regeneration;

    Sammanfattning : Successful fracture repair is a complex series of coordinated processes leading to regeneration of new bone to bridge the fracture site, remodelling of the newly formed bone and restoration of skeletal function. Disruption of these processes occurs in approximately 10% of all fractures and leads to delayed or failed healing requiring surgical interventions, increased complication rates, prolonged rehabilitation and high morbidity.
