1. A Sound Approach Toward a Mobility Aid for Blind and Low-Vision Individuals
Sammanfattning : Reduced independent mobility of blind and low-vision individuals (BLVIs) cause considerable societal cost, burden on relatives, and reduced quality of life for the individuals, including increased anxiety, depression symptoms, need of assistance, risk of falls, and mortality. Despite the numerous electronic travel aids proposed since at least the 1940’s, along with ever-advancing technology, the mobility issues persist. LÄS MER
2. Resource efficient automatic segmentation of medical images
Sammanfattning : Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. In 2020, there were around 10 million cancer deaths and nearly 20 million new cancer cases in the world. Radiation therapy is essential in cancer treatments because half of the cancer patients receive radiation therapy at some point. LÄS MER
3. Physicians‟ information practices : a case study of a medical team at a Teaching Hospital
Sammanfattning : This thesis is a user study within library and information science on participatory practices of a professional group in work activity. This has been investigated only to a minor extent in previous library and information science research. LÄS MER
4. The Physical Axon : Modeling, Simulation and Electrode Evaluation
Sammanfattning : Electrodes are used in medicine for detection of biological signals and for stimulating tissue, e.g. in deep brain stimulation (DBS). For both applications, an understanding of the functioning of the electrode, and its interface and interaction with the target tissue involved is necessary. LÄS MER
5. A Segmented Silicon Strip Detector for Photon-Counting Spectral Computed Tomography
Sammanfattning : Spectral computed tomography with energy-resolving detectors has a potential to improve the detectability of images and correspondingly reduce the radiation dose to patients by extracting and properly using the energy information in the broad x-ray spectrum. A silicon photon-counting detector has been developed for spectral CT and it has successfully solved the problem of high photon flux in clinical CT applications by adopting the segmented detector structure and operating the detector in edge-on geometry.
