6. Computational Studies of 2D Materials : Application to Energy Storage and Electron Transport in Nanoscale Devices
Sammanfattning : The field of two-dimensional (2D) layered materials provides a new platform for studying diverse physical phenomena that are scientifically interesting and relevant for technological applications. Novel applications in electronics and energy storage harness the unique electronic, optical, and mechanical properties of 2D materials for design of crucial components. LÄS MER
7. Swelling and Mechanical Properties of Polymer Gels: Salt, Macroion and Network Topology Effects
Sammanfattning : The work in this thesis concerns polymer gels, especially their swelling and mechanical properties modelled using a coarse-grained model of polyelectrolytes. The method used to study polymer gels was molecular simulation utilising the simulation package MOLSIM. LÄS MER
8. Development of Cellulose-Based, Nanostructured, Conductive Paper for Biomolecular Extraction and Energy Storage Applications
Sammanfattning : Conductive paper materials consisting of conductive polymers and cellulose are promising for high-tech applications (energy storage and biosciences) due to outstanding aspects of environmental friendliness, mechanical flexibility, electrical conductivity and efficient electroactive behavior. Recently, a conductive composite paper material was developed by covering the individual nanofibers of cellulose from the green algae Cladophora with a polypyrrole (PPy) layer. LÄS MER
9. Theoretical studies of EPR parameters of spin-labels incomplex environments
Sammanfattning : This thesis encloses quantum chemical calculations performed in the framework of density functional response theory for evaluating electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spin Hamiltonian parameters of various spin-labels in different environments. These parameters are the well known electronic g-tensor and the nitrogen hyperfine coupling constants, which are extensively explored in this work for various systems. LÄS MER
10. Excitation and Excited State Properties of Heterocyclic Chromophores. Indole and Purine Derivatives of Biological Significance
Sammanfattning : Proteins and nucleic acids absorb light in the near-UV due to the presence of aromatic heterocyclic chromophores. In this work linear dichroism (LD) in combination with fluorescence polarization anisotropy (FPA) and magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) is used to investigate electronic excitations and excited states of indole derivatives, purine derivatives, the wye base, 2-phenylindole and 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI).
