  1. 1. Functional Aspects of Cranial Implants : Mechanical and Regenerative Properties

    Författare :Susanne Lewin; Caroline Öhman-Mägi; Cecilia Persson; Harry van Lenthe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Calcium phosphate; Ti-6Al-4V; composites; mechanical properties; finite element methods; cranial implants; computed tomography; quantitative image analysis; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot materialvetenskap; Engineering Science with specialization in Materials Science;

    Sammanfattning : In several neurosurgical procedures, the skull must be temporarily opened. The resulting bone defect can subsequently be reconstructed with a cranial implant. However, the complication rate of this surgical procedure is high (~20%). The most common complication for cranial implants is infection. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Design of Hospital Operating Room Ventilation using Computational Fluid Dynamics

    Författare :Sasan Sadrizadeh; Sture Holmberg; Christian Poelma; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Computational Fluid Dynamics CFD ; Ventilation System; Hospital Operating Room; Bacteria Carrying Particle; Surgical Site Infection; Colony Forming Unit; Airborne Particle Control; Air Quality; Thermal Comfort; Active-Passive Air Sampling methods; Computational Fluid Dynamics CFD ; ventilationssystem; operationssal på sjukhus; bakteriebärande partikel; infektion i samband med operation; kolonibildande enhet; kontroll av luftburna partiklar; luftkvalitet; termisk komfort; aktiva-passiva provtagningsmetoder för luft; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Sammanfattning : The history of surgery is nearly as old as the human race. Control of wound infection has always been an essential part of any surgical procedure, and is still an important challenge in hospital operating rooms today. For patients undergoing surgery there is always a risk that they will develop some kind of postoperative complication. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Central venous catheterisation - clinical studies on mechanical complications in the ultrasound-guided era

    Författare :Maria Adrian; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; central venous catheterisation; ultrasound; mechanical complication; subclavian vein; Internal jugular vein; femoral vein; guidewire;

    Sammanfattning : Central venous catheterisation is one of the most common invasive procedures performed on patients in secondary care. Unfortunately the catheterisation procedure is associated with mechanical complications that both can be life-threatening and may force postponement of life-saving treatments such as surgery and chemotherapy. 4. 4. Evaluation of Respiratory Mechanics by Flow Signal Analysis : With Emphasis on Detecting Partial Endotracheal Tube Obstruction During Mechanical Ventilation

    Författare :Rafael Kawati; Michael Lichtwarck-Aschoff; Ulf Sjöstrand; Anders Larsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anaesthesiology and intensive care; Complication: obstructed endotracheal tube; Equipment:endotracheal tube; Heart: cardiogenic oscillation; Respiratory mechanics: respiratory mechanics; Ventilation: controlled mechanical; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthetics and intensive care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård;

    Sammanfattning : Evaluating respiratory mechanics during dynamic conditions without interrupting ongoing ventilation and flow, adds to the information obtained from the mechanics derived from static (= no flow) conditions, i.e., the flow signal has the potential to provide information on the properties of the respiratory system (including the tubing system). 5. 5. Mechanical Circulatory Support in Left Ventricular Heart Failure

    Författare :Petter Schiller; Laila Hellgren; Anders Jönsson; Göran Dellgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mechanical Circulatory Support; Left Ventricular Heart Failure; Left Ventricular Assist Device; Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation; ECMO; Thorax Surgery; Thoraxkirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Short-term mechanical circulatory support (MCS) with ventricular assist devices or veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA ECMO) has become the standard treatment in patients with cardiogenic shock unresponsive to pharmacological treatment. However, the haemodynamic effects of these devices are not yet fully described, nor are their effects on ventricular function and myocardial recovery. LÄS MER
