  1. 6. Ribosomal Proteins in Diamond-Blackfan Anemia : Insights into Failure of Ribosome Function

    Författare :Jitendra Badhai; Niklas Dahl; Anthony Wright; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diamond-Blackfan anemia; RPS19; Ribosomal proteins; Haploinsufficiency; cell cycle; Apoptosis; Erythropoiesis; Medical genetics; Medicinsk genetik; Clinical Genetics; klinisk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Diamond-Blackfan anemia (DBA) is a severe congenital anemia characterized by a defect in red blood cell production. The disease is associated with growth retardation, malformations, a predisposition for malignant disease and heterozygous mutations in either of the ribosomal protein (RP) genes RPS7, RPS17, RPS19, RPS24, RPL5, RPL11 and RPL35a. 2. 7. Molecular mechanisms involved in the growth of human uterine leiomyomas

    Författare :Xuxia Wu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Human uterine leiomyomas; myometrium; the menstrual cycle; estrogen; progesterone; cellular proliferation; apoptosis; oncogene; growth factor; growth factor receptor.;

    Sammanfattning : Human uterine leiomyomas (fibroids) are benign neoplasms arising from uterine smooth muscle cells, and are suggested to be sex steroid dependent. The aim of this study was to investigate the molecular mechanisms by which sex steroids, mainly estrogen and progesterone, influence the growth of Ieiomyomas. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Inhibition of crucial oncogenes by pharmacologically activated p53

    Författare :Yao Shi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The tumor suppressor p53 is a transcriptional factor which is frequently inactivated in cancer, either by point mutations or by its negative regulators, such as Mdm2 and MdmX. Reactivation of p53 by small molecules is a promising strategy to treat cancer. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Studies on the mechanisms of sorafenib-induced cell death

    Författare :Pedram Kharaziha; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In 2008, 26% of all deaths were cancer-related, making this group of diseases the second leading cause of death in the EU countries. Derailment of tyrosine kinase signaling is one important pre-requisite towards tumorigenesis. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Modulation of p53's transcriptional function by small molecules

    Författare :Fedor Nikulenkov; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : p53 tumour suppressor is a transcriptional factor which induces apoptosis or growth arrest in response to stress thus eliminating damaged cells. p53 function is frequently abrogated in tumours either via inactivation mutations in the TP53 gene or by elevated activity of p53 negative regulators HDM2 and HDMX.
