1. Quantitative methods for diffusion measurements in fluorescence microscopy
Sammanfattning : In this work, statistical methods are developed for mapping mass transport locally based on images collected using a confocal laser scanning microscope. Besides presenting raster image correlation spectroscopy as an established method in fluorescence microscopy, we introduce a single particle tracking method which takes advantage of the raster scanning of the image in a confocal microscope. 2. Retrieval of ocean surface winds and currents using satellite synthetic aperture radar and infrared radiometry
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the development, analysis and evaluation of methods for the retrieval of ocean surface winds with synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and surface currents with infrared (IR) radiometer sensors. The SAR wind speed retrievals are based on geophysical model functions using wind directions obtained with two approaches. LÄS MER
3. Properties of heavy rainfall in an East Asian monsoon catchment - Analysis of daily rain gauge data
Sammanfattning : The East Asian monsoon has a strong seasonal effect on the rainfall regime of Eastern China. In order to mitigate floods and conserve the water for use throughout the year, dams and other hydro-structures are built. The design of the structures requires knowledge of the rainfall characteristics that influence the inflow to them. LÄS MER
4. Count data modelling and tourism demand
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four papers concerning modelling of count data and tourism demand. For three of the papers the focus is on the integer-valued autoregressive moving average model class (INARMA), and especially on the ENAR(l) model. LÄS MER
5. Clinical and kinematic assessments of upper limb function in persons with post-stroke symptoms
Sammanfattning : Stroke is a common and multifaceted disease that often involves motor deficits in the upper limb. This thesis investigated reliability and validity of existing clinical assessments of upper limb function in persons with post-stroke symptoms and in non-disabled controls. LÄS MER
