  1. 11. Matter that matters : A study of household routines in a process of changing water and sanitation arrangements

    Författare :Helena Krantz; Jan-Olof Drangert; Elin Wihlborg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Urban water and sanitation arrangements; change; routines; everyday life; household management; water use; pocket of local order; matter out of place; comfort; cleanliness; convenience; sustainability; households; Miljöteknik; teknisk hygien; vatten och avlopp; Water in nature and society; Vatten i natur och samhälle;

    Sammanfattning : Our society changed, but the urban water and sanitation system of today is roughly the same as it was 100 years ago. The system is designed for, developed from and sustained by human activities, and has since its introduction affected household patterns of routine activities. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Simulation of relaxation processes in complex condensed matter systems : Algorithmic and physical aspets

    Författare :Tomas Oppelstrup; Mikhail Dzugutov; Göran Wahnström; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Condensed matter physics; Kondenserade materiens fysik; Numerical analysis; Numerisk analys; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Defects and diffusion; Defekter och diffusion;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis summarizes interrelated simulation studies of three different physical phenomena. The three topics are: simulation of work hardening of materials using dislocation dynamics, investigation of anomalous diffusion in supercooled liquids using molecular dynamics,and kinetic Monte-Carlo simulation of annealing of radiation damaged materials. 3. 13. Small-Scale Sample Handling for Studies of Liquid Crystals and Lipid-Based Soft Matter

    Författare :Gabriel Ohlsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorescence microscopy; nanocell; Microfluidics; aquaporins; liquid crystals; membrane transport; phase transitions; QCM-D; soft matter; lipid bilayer;

    Sammanfattning : In the field of sensing in general and biosensing in particular, there is a growing need for integratingminiaturised senor elements in microfluidic systems. The advantages are several, some of which being that the consumption of, often very expensive, sample material can be reduced; sampleexchange can be optimized; sensor performance in terms of detection limits can be improved and phenomena occurring on a very small, and even single-molecule, scale can be studied. 4. 14. Compositional clues to sources and sinks of terrestrial organic matter transported to the Eurasian Arctic shelf

    Författare :Emma Karlsson; Örjan Gustafsson; Volker Brüchert; Thorsten Dittmar; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organic carbon; degradation; microcosm; incubation; terrestrial biomarkers; acyl lipids; lignin phenols; radiocarbon; Eurasian Arctic shelf; East Siberian Sea; Laptev Sea; Lena River; colloidal matter; particulate matter; sedimentary matter; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The amount of organic carbon (OC) present in Siberian Arctic permafrost soils is estimated at twice the amount of carbon currently in the atmosphere. The shelf seas of the Arctic Ocean receive large amounts of this terrestrial OC from Eurasian Arctic rivers and from coastal erosion. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Plasma Oscillations in Holographic Quantum Matter

    Författare :Marcus Tornsö; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; holography; quasinormal modes; gauge gravity duality; graphene; strong coupling; plasmonics; strongly correlated media;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis we explore strongly correlated matter in the framework of holographic duality. Specifically, we examine the quasinormal modes of such systems, and we extend the current framework to efficiently and naturally cover plasmons and other collective modes that may be found within strongly correlated matter.
