1. On the two forms of amylose-lipid complexes
Sammanfattning : This thesis is about the formation of amylose-lipid complexes, and their properties. Two forms of superstructures can be identified. Complex form I has more randomly distributed helices, while the structure of form II is crystalline and therefore exhibits the typical V-pattern in X-ray diffraction analyses. LÄS MER
2. The role of exocrine pancreas for feed intake and growth. Studies in a model with exocrine pancreatic insufficient young pigs
Sammanfattning : Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI), resulting from disease (e.g. cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis) or surgery (e.g. LÄS MER
3. Neuropeptide Y - aspects of vasomotorresponses and receptor characterization
Sammanfattning : Abstract The aims of the present thesis were to examine neuropeptide Y (NPY) responses in different human and guinea pig vascular beds and in cultured human vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) and to characterize, with different NPY agonists and the specific NPY Y1 receptor antagonist (BIBP3226), the NPY receptors involved. NPY-induced strong and potent contractions in human cerebral and subcutaneous arteries and in guinea pig basilar arteries. LÄS MER
4. Development of the gastrointestinal tract in young mammals : Effects of enteral provocation with protease or phytohaemagglutinin in neonatal rats
Sammanfattning : The rat, as an altritial species, is born with an immature gastrointestinal tract and intestinal barrier function, which is highly absorptive to milk-borne bioactive molecules that can pass undigested and reach the general circulation of the suckling newborn. This passage occurs by the neonatal-Fc-receptor (FcRn) binding and trancytosis of immunoglobulin G in the proximal small intestine (SI) and by the highly endocytic vacuolated enterocytes non-selectively in the distal SI. 5. Improving Productivity and Enzyme Stability Through Process Design: Lipase-catalysed Synthesis of Epoxides and Esters
Sammanfattning : Interest in sustainable development has increased throughout society during the past decades, and the chemical industry is no exception. The appeal for renewable raw materials has consequently increased and has paved the way for the implementation of industrial biotechnology. LÄS MER
